Preface
In January 1949, senior Kuomintang general Du Yuming was captured, and he was later sent to the Beijing Gongdelin War Criminals Management Institute for renovation.
During this period, Du Yuming experienced a transformation from thought to behavior. He realized that the reason why the Kuomintang failed was because Communist Party is the party that truly considers the people. In such a situation, how can the Kuomintang win?
But when he realized it was too late. Du Yuming originally thought that he would have been executed after being arrested, but he did not expect that the Communist Party was very tolerant and not only did not execute him, but he was even very friendly to him.
During that time, Du Yuming also had a deeper understanding of the concepts of communism and the Communist Party, and his thoughts were also subtly changed. In the end, he completely let go of his obsession with Chiang Kai-shek and the Kuomintang and devoted himself to the embrace of New China.
1959, Du Yuming, as the first group of released war criminals, regained his freedom. Du Yuming's wife, who was far away in the United States, heard about this incident, and after many twists and turns, he successfully rushed back to his motherland in 1963 to meet Du Yuming.
The couple separated for many years and were naturally excited after meeting. Cao Xiuqing told Du Yuming one by one about what happened in the past years. Two of them were about Chiang Kai-shek, which made Du Yuming feel sad and angry after hearing this, and said bluntly that he had taken a look at it back then.
So what did Cao Xiuqing say to Du Yuming at that time?
The first thing: Chiang Kai-shek broke the bridge across the river and neglected Cao Xiuqing's family
1949, the victory and defeat between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party had gradually become clear. The Communist Party is what the people want. No matter how Chiang Kai-shek resisted, it could not change the overall situation. After the victory of the Huaihai Battle, the Kuomintang general Du Yuming was captured by the People's Liberation Army. The Kuomintang's defeat was decided, and Chiang Kai-shek was ready to plan a way out.
When Du Yuming was captured, his wife and children were still in Shanghai. In order to arouse the hatred of the soldiers towards the Communist Party and prevent Du Yuming's family from joining the Communist Party, the Kuomintang actually spread rumors that Du Yuming had been killed by the Communist Party.
Du Yuming's wife Cao Xiuqing did not believe the Kuomintang as soon as possible after hearing the news, because she was a Communist Party member and she felt that the Communist Party might not have done such a thing.
But Du Yuming is an important general of the Kuomintang after all, and even if the Communist Party does not kill him, he will definitely not let him go easily. So Cao Xiuqing knew at that time that this family might have to rely on her in the future.
At that time, Chiang Kai-shek still had high hopes for Shanghai. He ordered Tang Enbo to defend Shanghai to the death, but Tang Enbo was a paper tiger. He abandoned the city and fled after only half a month of guarding. In May 1949, Shanghai was also liberated.
At this time, Cao Xiuqing, who was in Shanghai, received an order from Chiang Kai-shek before he could consider his own and his family's future.
Cheng Kai-shek asked Cao Xiuqing to take his mother-in-law and five children to take a plane to Taiwan, and he also hypocritically said that he would take care of their family's life in the future. Cao Xiuqing was a woman who was also taking the family and young people during the war, so she had to hear Chiang Kai-shek go to Taiwan first.
The purpose of Chiang Kai-shek's move was obvious. He knew that Du Yuming was now in the hands of the Communist Party. He was afraid that if Cao Xiuqing's family stayed in Shanghai, after the People's Liberation Army entered Shanghai, they would use Cao Xiuqing to persuade Du Yuming to surrender. He took Cao Xiuqing and his son away, mainly because he wanted to take them hostages to restrain Du Yuming and prevent Du Yuming from being used by the Communist Party.
But Chiang Kai-shek was too unkind. He had promised to take care of Cao Xiuqing's family before, but he did not fulfill his promise after he arrived in Taiwan. Cao Xiuqing and his family took the meager living expenses given by Chiang Kai-shek, and lived in Taiwan with the hardships.
Cao Xiuqing also asked to meet Chiang Kai-shek, Soong Mei-ling and others, but they all ignored the situation of Cao Xiuqing's family. Cao Xiuqing had no choice but to go to Du Yuming's former subordinates for help, and all had little effect.
At this time, Cao Xiuqing truly felt the ruthlessness of Chiang Kai-shek and the Kuomintang. She sighed at the coldness of people's hearts, but life still had to continue. She ran around looking for a job for the sake of the family and the family, and finally found an errand.
But the salary for this job is not high. The family of seven lives a miserable and boring life with Cao Xiuqing's salary.
hemp rope is specially designed to break in fine places, and bad luck is special to challenge people who are destined to suffer. God did not treat Cao Xiuqing's family well because of the tragic experiences. Instead, she experienced something even more tragic - Du Zhiren, the eldest son who was studying in the United States, committed suicide.
Cao Xiuqing was almost heartbroken after learning the news, and the culprit that led to her son's death was Chiang Kai-shek.
Du Zhiren was originally studying in the United States. He worked part-time, worked during the day and studied at night, and worked very hard. However, due to overwork, he fell ill. At this time, he was still missing 3,000 yuan in tuition, so he asked his mother to help him think of a solution.
Cao Xiuqing asked Chiang Kai-shek for help for his son's studies, but Chiang Kai-shek was only willing to give out 1,000 yuan, and he had to give it to him for two years. Such behavior directly angered Du Zhiren. His father Du Yuming once threw blood on the battlefield for Chiang Kai-shek's great cause. Now Chiang Kai-shek is reluctant to fund it for only 3,000 yuan. It is really ridiculous.
Du Zhiren, who was so sad and angry, ended up committing suicide by taking medicine because he could not see any hope for life.
When Du Yuming heard his wife say this, he was already crying. He didn't know that his wife, children and mother lived like this in Taiwan, and at the same time he was sad and angry. He didn't expect that Chiang Kai-shek was so ruthless. He had been through life and death for him and the Kuomintang for so many years, and finally ended up like this for his family.
Fortunately, Du Yuming's son-in-law Yang Zhenning has a promising future, and Cao Xiuqing's life later became better.
The second thing: Chiang Kai-shek married Yang Zhenning in 1950 to win over Yang Zhenning
Du Yuming's eldest daughter Du Zhili . In 1957, Yang Zhenning won the Nobel Prize in Physics , and became famous in the world for a while.
Cao Xiuqing's mother-in-law was already old, and her living conditions were too difficult, so she passed away soon after. At this time, Chiang Kai-shek and his wife, who had been deafing Cao Xiuqing's family, suddenly came out and not only buried Cao Xiuqing's mother-in-law, but Soong Mei-ling also personally sent a car to invite Cao Xiuqing to her home.
You should know that just recently, Cao Xiuqing went to see Soong Mei-ling, but Mrs. Song was closed.
Cao Xiuqing wanted to see what Chiang Kai-shek and his wife sold in the gourd this time, so he was invited. As soon as Soong Mei-ling saw Cao Xiuqing, she held her hand affectionately and asked her about her well-being. Seeing Soong Mei-ling's appearance, Cao Xiuqing felt disgusted. After all, she looked at her coldly at herself not long ago. Now she is so enthusiastic. She is probably weasel wishes the chicken a happy New Year, and is uneasy.
Soong Mei-ling warmly congratulated Cao Xiuqing's son-in-law on winning the Nobel Prize , and asked Cao Xiuqing if she wanted to meet her daughter and son-in-law. Cao Xiuqing said that she really wanted to meet them, so So Soong Mei-ling asked Cao Xiuqing tentatively, if she was asked to go to the United States, how would she tell Yang Zhenning?
Cao Xiuqing said very smartly that she didn't know. Sure enough, what Soong Mei-ling said next was their real purpose for letting her go to the United States.
"Mrs. Du, I hope that when you come back from the United States, you will bring Yang Zhenning back to Taiwan and let him help us counterattack the mainland."
Chiang Kai-shek, who had been reluctant to see Cao Xiuqing, also appeared. Cao Xiuqing felt very ironic. He and his family had ended up like this. They actually wanted their son-in-law to work hard for them, and their faces were even thicker than the city wall.
But Cao Xiuqing was a smart person. She kept silent and pretended to obediently told Chiang Kai-shek and his wife that she was willing to persuade Yang Zhenning to come back to help them. Chiang Kai-shek and his wife were naturally overjoyed and warmly welcomed Cao Xiuqing.
After Cao Xiuqing returned, he soon received a notice from Chiang Kai-shek asking her to go to the United States, but Chiang Kai-shek also asked that Cao Xiuqing could not take care of her children when she went to the United States, and she could only go for six months, up to one year. If time did not come back, then Cao Xiuqing naturally knew what kind of life the four children she stayed in Taiwan would live.
Cao Xiuqing just wanted to escape from Taiwan at this time, so she agreed. As soon as she arrived in the United States and saw her daughter and son-in-law, the first thing she did was to refund the return ticket. This move already shows that she would never persuade Yang Zhenning to go back and help Chiang Kai-shek dream of spring and autumn.
More than a year after Cao Xiuqing arrived in the United States, he heard about Du Yuming's release. She wanted to go back to find her husband, but she also remembered her children in Taiwan. After several final choices, Cao Xiuqing chose to stay in the United States for the time being.
As time goes by, Cao Xiuqing missed her husband more and more. After struggling with thoughts, Cao Xiuqing still decided to return to the motherland. So in 1963, she finally set foot on her hometown again and met her long-lost husband.
After Du Yuming was pardoned, he became a literary and historical specialist, and the Communist Party also took good care of him. After Cao Xiuqing returned to his motherland, he also received proper arrangements. Compared with the days when he was unable to eat in Taiwan, the Communist Party's current behavior made Cao Xiuqing feel extremely warm.
Du Yuming was even more grateful to the Communist Party because the Communist Party not only treated itself well but his wife well, but even actively contacted his family when he was still in prison.
At that time, the Kuomintang spread rumors everywhere that the Communist Party executed Du Yuming, so there were many different opinions on this matter overseas, and Du Yuming's daughter Du Zhili was also worried. In 1955, in order to make Du Zhili feel at ease, Premier Zhou entrusted his connections to send a message to Yang Zhenning and Du Zhili, telling them that Du Yuming is safe in Beijing.
The Communist Party’s move made Yang Zhenning feel very warm. It was precisely because of this that Yang Zhenning resolutely used his own strength to contribute to the motherland.
Du Yuming is committed to the reunification of the motherland in
1971, Sino-US relations warmed up, and Yang Zhenning also brought his wife Du Zhili back to the motherland to visit his father-in-law and mother-in-law. From 1971 to 1973, Yang Zhenning and his wife returned to their motherland to visit relatives four times. They were not only welcomed by the people of the motherland, but also received a warm banquet from Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou.
Du Yuming later settled in Beijing. He felt the unique charm and warmth of the new China, so he repeatedly called for the reunification of the motherland, and insisted on his choice for the rest of his life and contributed to the great cause of the motherland.

Du Yuming died of illness in 1981. Before his death, he was still calling on the people of the whole country to unite and work hard to build a modern power, and Yang Zhenning also implemented his father-in-law's will.
In those years, Yang Zhenning was committed to promoting the motherland. He worked hard to contribute to the development between China and the United States. At the same time, he also knew that only national strength could gain a foothold in the international capital. He supported the motherland's scientific research with practical actions. He not only ran between major universities in China to conduct academic exchanges, but also raised funds at home and abroad for the motherland's educational development to support more outstanding domestic scholars in further studies.
From a natural scientist to a social activist, Yang Zhenning fully interprets patriotism. In 1997, in order to praise Yang Zhenning, the People's Government of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government named the asteroid 3421 "Yang Zhenning Star", which is also the most powerful support of the motherland for Yang Zhenning.
Conclusion
Chiang Kai-shek broke the bridge across the river and treated the families of the old generals so harsh. How could such a cold and ruthless person win the hearts of the people? Chiang Kai-shek always blamed others for the reasons for his failure, but he didn't know that the one he should reflect on was himself.
Du Yuming finally repented and worked hard for the construction of the New China again. New China and Du Yuming achieved mutual success. Only in this way can the motherland continue to move forward. And patriots like Yang Zhenning will surely be recorded in history.
