is similar to the image of a spy in a spy war drama. In reality, real spies are often taciturn and good at disguising themselves, which is difficult for ordinary people to see through. Whether it is a war between two armies or a secret battle between two countries, spies will always play an important role. They will use their wisdom and extraordinary abilities to obtain enemy intelligence quietly, thereby fighting for the best interests of their own side.
Since the 1920s, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party have gone from cooperation to confrontation, then from confrontation to cooperation, and finally again, and many spy-like figures have emerged during this period.
And Shen Zhiyue, whom I want to talk about today, is an extremely important figure in the spy war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party.
Shen Zhiyue is a "double-faced spy". He cleverly and naturally mediated between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party for several years, switching repeatedly and ease. Because he is accustomed to disguising and taciturn, his identity has once become a mystery. Some say he is the ace agent of the Kuomintang, while others say he is the "red agent" of the Communist Party.
But no matter how deep the spy is, it will reveal itself. In 1938, Shen Zhiyue's action when lighting a cigarette for Mao Zedong aroused Mao Zedong's alertness and suspicion, and then he immediately transferred him away from him.
So, what actions did Shen Zhiyue make when lighting a cigarette that aroused Chairman Mao’s alertness?
How did he lurk to Yan'an? What ended up ending with him?
- Stay in Yan'an
In the spring of 1938, Mao Zedong invited the famous scholar Professor Xiao Zhiping to visit Yan'an.
Shen Zhiyue disguised himself as Professor Xiao Zhiping's assistant and was named "Shen Hui" and came here with the professor. A month later, when Professor Xiao Zhiping was about to leave, Shen Zhiyue kept thinking about the small plan in his heart - he didn't want to leave.
In order to stay in Yan'an, Shen Zhiyue asked the superior leaders of Yan'an to participate in the revolution. He looked like he was a ambitious young man. According to convention, those who participated in the revolution need to go through the strict political review. Shen Zhiyue was confident because long before he came to Yan'an, his boss, Dai Li, had already arranged everything for him.
So, after a strict review, his identity was disguised as he luckily got over and stayed in Yan'an.
Just like that, Shen Zhiyue "joined" the revolution.
Speaking of which, Shen Zhiyue has a great relationship with the Communist Party, which will start from the past few years.
1933, 20-year-old Shen Zhiyue was successfully admitted to Fudan University . It was his first time to come to the bustling metropolis Shanghai, where countless progressive people gathered and many new areas were waiting for him to explore. Under the influence of classmates, Shen Zhiyue actively participated in the workers' movement and also participated in the workers' strike movement of Pudong Coal Company.
Shen Zhiyue originally thought that he would join the Communist Party one day, but because of one thing, he was appreciated and reused by Dai Li by chance. It's really good luck.
So, what is this?
It turned out that Shen Zhiyue was arrested by the Kuomintang after participating in the workers' strike. In prison, he witnessed his classmates being tortured. He was so indignant that he couldn't help but curse the Kuomintang secretly. But Shen Zhiyue is very adaptable. When the Kuomintang interrogated him, he did not mention the Communist Party at all, and lied that he was a distant relative of a senior Kuomintang executive.
The spy who interrogated Shen Zhiyue could not tell the truth or fake for a while, and did not dare to torture him casually. If he was really a relative of the senior Kuomintang, he would not be able to explain it at that time. So, Shen Zhiyue was finally spared from the pain of flesh and blood.
Although Shen Zhiyue concealed the person being interrogated, the Director of the Secret Service took all this into consideration. He could see Shen Zhiyue's trick at a glance, but he did not expose it, but told Dai Li the whole story.
Director of the Special Service Department admired Shen Zhiyue's reaction and courage. He expressed his appreciation for Shen Zhiyue in front of Dai Li without hesitation. After listening, Dai Li also felt that Shen Zhiyue was a spy agent, so he persuaded Shen Zhiyue to join Military Control Commission .
Due to the lack of revolutionary thinking, Shen Zhiyue finally joined the Military Control Commission under Dai Li's persuasion.
For Shen Zhiyue, Dai Li can be regarded as a "bole". After all, Dai Li took him out of prison, and he is still grateful for this kindness. In this way, Shen Zhiyue joined the Kuomintang because of Dai Li's appreciation.
Later, Dai Li also sent him to Zhejiang Police School for further studies. During this period, Shen Zhiyue occasionally read Marxism-Leninist works, which was also acquiesced by Dai Li, because Dai Li had long planned for his future whereabouts. Dai Li thought to himself that spies who are familiar with Marxism-Leninist works will be more difficult to find if they are involved in the Communist Party. It is perfect for Shen Zhiyue to go.
So afterwards, Shen Zhiyue successfully got into Yan'an under Dai Li's arrangement.

So, after mixing into Yan'an, how did Shen Zhiyue come to Chairman Mao?

Shen Zhiyue stayed in Yan'an and was arranged to work at the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University.
He works diligently, works hard and lives a hard and simple life, and is completely different from the arrogant, extravagant and lewd style of some Kuomintang people. After a long period of contact, Shen Zhiyue's performance has received a lot of praise. Even Kang Sheng, Minister of the Social Department of the CPC Central Committee, said:
Shen Zhiyue is the example of the youth from Yan'an who came to the Kuomintang-controlled area.
Since then, Minister Kang Sheng attaches great importance to Shen Zhiyue, and Shen Zhiyue often asks Minister Kang Sheng about some issues of Marxism-Leninism . After that, Shen Zhiyue grew up very fast and soon joined the Communist Party of China.
If no one raised it, I'm afraid no one would think that this smart, motivated, hard and simple "Shen Hui" is a Kuomintang agent , but in fact he is indeed. Shen Zhiyue works diligently on the surface, but secretly collects important information from the Communist Party Central Committee.
Before coming to Yan'an, Dai Li gave Shen Zhiyue two tasks, one task was to collect intelligence secretly, and the other task was to find opportunities to assassinate senior leaders of the Communist Party of China such as Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai.
The first task is not a difficult task for Shen Zhiyue, but the second one is even more difficult.
At that time, in order to prevent the assassination of Kuomintang spies, Yan'an was very vigilant and established a central guard battalion, which Shen Zhiyue could not get close to. Furthermore, Shen Zhiyue was alone in Yan'an without anyone to support him, and it was difficult to implement a meticulous plan. Shen Zhiyue believes that he can just lurk in a long time to obtain information, and the assassination mission is not in a hurry.
After that, Shen Zhiyue got an opportunity to get close to Mao Zedong - to serve as Mao Zedong's secretary with his performance of "excellent performance in work and simple in private".
When he first heard the news, Shen Zhiyue was very surprised because it was completely beyond his plan. He did not expect to meet Mao Zedong, the senior leader of the Communist Party of China, so soon. This forced Shen Zhiyue to adjust his original plan.
Just like that, Shen Zhiyue came to Mao Zedong to work successfully.
has been invaded into Yan'an for so long, and this is the first time Shen Zhiyue has had a close contact with Mao Zedong. He is both nervous and excited. However, what Shen Zhiyue did not expect was that he, who had always been leaking, still showed his strength in front of Mao Zedong.

In some film and television dramas, we often see Chairman Mao taking a deep breath of smoke when he is working, spitting out smoke, and then the smoke gradually dissipating. In fact, these are all traces to follow in reality.Chairman Mao was very fond of smoking, and sometimes he could smoke several packs a day. It was when Chairman Mao was smoking that he noticed something abnormal by Chairman Mao because of a small action.
That day, Chairman Mao was concentrating on his work, and he smoked the cigarettes one after another with him. After a while, the cigarette in his pocket was smoked. When Shen Zhiyue, who was beside him, immediately took out a cigarette from his pocket and handed it over.
It turns out that Shen Zhiyue had already found out about Chairman Mao’s preferences. He didn’t smoke and kept the cigarettes that the Chairman liked to smoke in his pocket.
Chairman Mao saw the cigarette handed over by Shen Zhiyue, and took it without thinking too much. In order to cooperate with Chairman Mao, Shen Zhiyue also lit a cigarette for himself and started smoking it as if nothing had happened. In this way, the two of them smoked cigarettes and chatted a lot. During the chat, Chairman Mao suddenly noticed that Shen Zhiyue's posture of holding cigarettes was very unnatural, and he didn't look like a person who smoked for a long time.
Chairman Mao stared at Shen Zhiyue's finger holding a cigarette for a long time, and it was awkward no matter how he looked. Then he looked at him deliberately imitating others' smoke. Mao Zedong concluded that the real smokers would not deliberately pretend to smoke, and Shen Zhiyue would not smoke.

KMT agents are not only Shen Zhiyue, but they all got into different places and didn't take over. They didn't know each other's situation. One day, Shen Zhiyue suddenly found the mark set by Mao Renfeng next to the elm tree in his residence. After checking it carefully, he found a code word written on a note.
code word content is: I went to the Du Fu Ancestral Hall in Ganquan County at noon the next day to meet. The appearance of this note made Shen Zhiyue at a loss. At this critical moment, he thought to himself, what if this was a trap set by the Communist Party to test him? If he goes rashly, wouldn’t he fall into the trap?
That night, this note made Shen Zhiyue sleepless all night. He didn't know whether he would go to the appointment the next day. After thinking about it, Shen Zhiyue did not go to the appointment in the end, which also brought the matter to an end for the time being.
Later, a suspicious monk was found in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region. After some interrogation, he found out that his name was Meng Zhiquan. He was a spy of the Military Control Commission and had been undercover in Yan'an for two years. Later, during the interrogation, it was learned that their connector was a senior agent of the Kuomintang, and they didn't know who this person was. In fact, this person is Shen Zhiyue lurking in Yan'an.
When Shen Zhiyue learned that Meng Zhiquan was captured, he suddenly realized that he was glad that he did not go to the appointment at the beginning, so he escaped. In this way, Shen Zhiyue lurked in Yan'an for two years and was not discovered during this period.
I have to say that Shen Zhiyue has extremely strong disguise ability.
So, what is his final outcome?

1949, the War of Liberation was won, and Shen Zhiyue fled to Taiwan with Chiang Kai-shek .
During his time in Taiwan, Chiang Kai-shek was most worried about the ancestral tomb of the Chiang family. At that time, he sent people to destroy Mao Zedong's ancestral tomb at all costs, but now he is very worried that the Communist Party will take revenge.
However, Chiang Kai-shek still judged a gentleman by his villain's heart. Chairman Mao not only did not order the destruction of Jiang's hometown, but also called on everyone to actively protect it in order to make Chiang Kai-shek always remember where the roots of his hometown are.
Shen Zhiyue knew that Chiang Kai-shek was homesick, so he specially sent someone to Chiang Kai-shek's hometown to take many photos and handed them over to Chiang Kai-shek.Seeing that everything in his hometown was still there, Chiang Kai-shek's heart finally let go. After the incident of
, Chiang Kai-shek was very satisfied with Shen Zhiyue's approach, so he began to value Shen Zhiyue very much. Until Chiang Kai-shek passed away later, Shen Zhiyue was always responsible for assisting his son Chiang Ching-kuo.
As a veteran figure in the spy system, Shen Zhiyue is also highly dependent.
In 1990, Shen Zhiyue was diagnosed with " prostate cancer ", and his condition gradually worsened. Under the persuasion of his family, Shen Zhiyue came to Beijing for treatment. It is said that Deng Xiaoping and Yang Shangkun also received him personally.
But after several years of fighting against the disease, Shen Zhiyue finally left. On February 14, 1994, Shen Zhiyue died of illness in Taipei at the age of 82. It is said that after Shen Zhiyue's death, General Zhang Aiping once commented on him like this:
"With both wisdom and courage, have a good governance of the country, have two masters in one matter, and no harm on both sides."
It can be seen from this that Shen Zhiyue is a legendary figure between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. He wanders back and forth between the two parties without any harm, which arouses infinite imagination of him in later generations.
