Ma'anshan area has a long history. The Western Zhou is the time of Wu Kingdom . During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, it was successively changed to Yue Kingdom and Chu Kingdom . From Qin to , the Western Jin , both belong to Danyang County (the county seat is now Danyang Town, Dangtu County). Eastern Jin Wars in the north, refugees moved south. In 329 AD (the fourth year of Emperor Cheng's Xianhe), the Dangtu County (now in Huaiyuan County, Anhui) was resentful to the southern suburbs. So they established Dangtu County in the area of Nanling. In the south of the Yangtze River, there was a name for Dangtu , but it was not a physical county. In 345 AD (the first year of Yonghe), Yuzhou, Jiangbei (now southeastern Henan and eastern Hubei) was established in the overseas Chinese Niuzhu (now quarrying). In 502 AD (the first year of Tianjian in the Southern Dynasty Liang Dynasty), Danyang County was divided into Danyang County, and the county was built on quarry. In 589 AD (the ninth year of Kaihuang in the Sui Dynasty), Dangtu County, which was placed in southern Anhui, was the capital of Gushu City (now Dangtu Chengguan Town). This was the beginning of Gushu's Dangtu County, and it has remained unchanged so far. In 977 AD (the second year of Taiping Xingguo in the Northern Song Dynasty), Taipingzhou was established, and Gushu City was governed, and the three counties of Dangtu, Wuhu, and Fanchang were governed. The Yuan Dynasty changed Taipingzhou to Taiping Road. In 1355 AD (the fifteenth year of Zhizheng in the Yuan Dynasty), Zhu Yuanzhang led the rebel army to capture Dangtu, changed Taiping Road to Taiping Prefecture, and governed the county as usual. The jurisdiction of the prefectures in the Ming and Qing Dynasties remained unchanged. The Republic of China issued a prefecture and Liu County, and Dangtu County was directly under Anhui Province. Wuhu Road was established in 1914 AD (the third year of the Republic of China), and Dangtu belonged to Wuhu Road. In 1928 AD (17th year of the Republic of China), the road was abolished and was still directly under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province.
Dangtu Jiefang in April 1949. Ma'anshan Town was established in February 1954, and it was affiliated to Dangtu County. In August 1955, the Ma'anshan Mine Area Government (county level) was established, which is affiliated to the Wuhu Special Zone. On October 12, 1956, the State Council approved the establishment of Ma'anshan City , which is a provincial municipality. Dangtu County was successively affiliated with Wuhu District (region) and Xuancheng District . In July 1983, Dangtu County (except Daqiao Commune) was transferred to Ma'anshan City. On August 16, 2011, Chaohu City, a prefecture-level city in Anhui Province, was split into three parts, among which Hanshan County , and county (excluding Shenxiang Town ) were transferred to Ma'anshan.
