This is a very rare photo, which records the scene of Premier Zhou Enlai returning to Yan'an in 1973 and having dinner with his fellow villagers.
On June 9, 1973, Zhou Enlai accompanied Vietnamese Prime Minister Fan Wen to Yan'an. This was the first time Zhou Enlai returned to Yan'an after 26 years of separation.
During the inspection, Zhou Enlai saw that although he had been liberated for many years, the old revolutionary base in Yan'an was still very backward, and the villagers' personal food and clothing had not been solved. In the 14 counties in Yan'an, the per capita annual income was less than 50 yuan, which was extremely sad.
Zhou Enlai invited old neighbors who had been in Yan'an to eat at his residence. The food was very simple, and the staple food was millet rice. Seeing the old neighbor eating the rice in big mouthfuls, Zhou Enlai burst into tears. The rice was already a very good meal for the fellow villagers!
The Prime Minister in the photo is holding a bowl of grain rice in his hand, and he looks at eating attentively, so that others can not see him in tears!
He asked the cadres in Yan'an to make a difference in appearance in three years and double the food in five years. Before leaving, Zhou En said, "I will come again when Yan'an is built." But three years later, the Prime Minister passed away, and his promise to return to Yan'an becomes a permanent regret.
