The ancestors of Zidong moved from Xinhui Langdi in the early Ming Dynasty and settled and opened a village in Sanhua and Gexiang, Zidonggang. It is said that during the Zhenzong period of the Northern Song Dynasty (998-1022), Pang Qiyu (some say Pang Qiwo) convened the construction of Zixia Palace (some say Ziyuntang) and Dongyuntang, and took the first word "Zidong" as the name of the village.
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Zidong Village belonged to Huangdingsi Lutan Fort. In 1927, it belonged to Lutanbao, District 6. In 1928, it belonged to Zidong Bayueshi Fushijia Township, District 6. In 1930, it belonged to Zidong Township, District 6. In 1936, it belonged to Zishi Township, District 6. In 1946, it belonged to Zishi Township, District 6. Ziluao Township, District 4.
In November 1949, it was under the jurisdiction of the former command post of the First Detachment. In March 1950, it belonged to Ziluao Township in District 1. In April 1953, it belonged to Zihu Township, District 12 (renamed Nanzhuang District in October 1955). In May 1957, after the district was withdrawn and merged with the township, it belonged to Nanzhuang Township. When Nanzhuang Commune was established in October 1958, it was the Zihu Brigade. In May 1963, it was newly established as the Purple Cave Brigade.
In November 1983, the community was removed and the district was renamed Zidong Township in Nanzhuang District Office. In February 1987, the district was removed to establish a town and was renamed Nanzhuang Town Zidong Village Committee. In June 1989, it was changed to the Zidong Management District Office. In March 1999, the management area office was renamed the Villagers Committee . In December 2002, it was renamed to Nanzhuang Town, Chancheng District, and it is still in use today.
Zidong Village is the hometown of the revolutionary martyr Luo Dengxian. He is an outstanding member of the Communist Party of China, a famous leader of the labor movement, an important leader of the Northeast People's Anti-Japanese and National Salvation Movement, and an important founder of the Northeast People's Anti-Japanese Armed Forces led by the party. .
In 1931, Luo Dengxian was sent to Northeast China as a representative of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. In the same year, Japan brazenly caused the "September 18th Incident" , which shocked China and the world. Luo Dengxian and the Manchuria Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, in accordance with the instructions of the Party Central Committee, called on workers, peasants and soldiers to strike, go on strike, and hold demonstrations to oppose Japanese imperialist aggression.
On March 28, 1933, Luo Dengxian was arrested in Shanghai due to a traitor's report. On August 29 of the same year, he died heroically in Yuhuatai, Nanjing, at the age of 28.
In order to carry forward the revolutionary spirit of martyr Luo Dengxian, in 2017, Chancheng District built an exhibition hall of Luo Dengxian’s deeds at the original site of Luo Dengxian’s former residence, and built a supporting Luo Dengxian Park.
