However, due to its age and disrepair, part of the wall of Guanhai Building has collapsed. The "Proposal on Repairing Xiong Shili's Former Residence in Panyu" proposed by Mai Shuping, a member of the Provincial CPPCC, was listed as a key proposal supervised by the Provincial CPPCC Chairman's Meeting this year.

Recently, the Guangzhou Municipal Government responded to the proposal and stated that the design plan for the Guanhai Building renovation project has passed expert review, and funds to support the renovation have also been arranged.

According to the Guangzhou Municipal Government, Guanhai Building has been announced as a clue to Panyu District traditional style building. The planning department is preparing a traditional village protection and development plan, which has included the building in the scope of protection and recommended it as a traditional style building. On the basis of simultaneously carrying out the renovation and revitalization of Guanhai Tower, Guangzhou City actively declares Guanhai Tower as a cultural relic protection unit in accordance with policies. The immovable cultural relics registration and expert review and identification work have been completed. The expert group has agreed to recommend it as an immovable cultural relic and is currently soliciting opinions from the owners.

Guangzhou has hired a design company with cultural relics protection survey and design qualifications to conduct on-site surveys and prepare a design plan for the renovation project of Xiong Shili’s former residence. At present, the renovation project design plan has passed expert review. The Guangzhou Municipal Government stated that funds have been arranged to support the repair work. The Hualong Town Government of Panyu District applied to the provincial government for 2 million yuan in repair funds for Guanhai Building and was approved. The funds have now been released to the Panyu District Finance Bureau. At the same time, the Municipal Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau plans to allocate 100,000 yuan to support the preparation of a repair survey and design plan for Guanhai Tower.
