The predecessor of the Shandan Alley Memorial Hall was the Alley Donated Cultural Relics Exhibition Hall built in 1982 with funds allocated by the Gansu Provincial Government. In 2014, the Shandan County Party Committee and County Government decided to build a new Alley Memorial Hall, which will be opened to the public on July 1, 2020. The exhibition at the Shandan Alley Memorial Hall is divided into two major areas: the theme exhibition "Alley Spirit Shines Forever" and the public mutual area "Alley Love Garden". Upon entering the memorial hall, the reporter was first attracted by a century-old retirement certificate: In the display cabinet in the first unit, there was a slightly yellowed English document with some content missing, which read that Alley participated in the first 's discharge certificate from World War I was issued on March 13, 1919. This certificate from more than a hundred years ago takes time back to Alley's youth.
According to the staff of the exhibition hall, at the end of 1916, Alley joined the army before graduating from high school and was incorporated into the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and sent to fight in Europe. On the battlefield, Alley had real contact with the northerners of China for the first time. He "for the first time had a little idea of what kind of country China is." A few years later, Alley went to China and stayed there for 60 years.
In the display cabinet of the Bailey School unit, a variety of labor learning tools, material donation certificates, etc. are displayed. It is understood that at the end of 1944, Peili Polytechnic encountered great difficulties after moving from Shuangshipu, Feng County, Shaanxi Province to Shandan. At that time, the international community gave great support, including the United Nations Relief Administration, the Public Welfare Service Association, Gonghe International and other organizations. Not only did it provide the school with assistance in terms of funds, materials, machinery and equipment, books and transportation tools, but also sent teachers and technical personnel to the school, laying the foundation for the construction of Shandan Paili Polytechnic School, and also for Shandan and even Hexi Corridor has contributed to the development of modern industry, agriculture and medical technology.
Visiting is to pay homage to a spirit. The theme exhibition "Alley's Spirit Shines Forever" consists of twelve parts, including Shanghai Time, Gonghe Movement, Peili School, and Love for Shandan. "Alley Love Garden" shows Alley's life through nine groups of fiberglass sculptures, including the happy boy, participating in the first battle of and , and first arriving in Shanghai. It is understood that the Alley Memorial Museum has collected more than 20,000 pictures, more than 1,800 pieces of written materials, nearly 1,000 pieces of physical materials, and nearly 150 hours of film and television materials. The precious and rich collection provides a detailed basis for excavating Alley's deeds, telling Alley's story, inheriting Alley's culture, and promoting Alley's spirit. The Shandan Alley Memorial Hall has become a red education and research site in the province, and is a place where people can pay tribute to, commemorate, and carry forward Alley's spirit.
