My grandfather Zhang Zhiwei, also known as Zhang Yi after he was discharged from the army, was born in February 1908 in Zhuangtou Village, Gaobai County, Yichuan County.

When the Anti-Japanese War broke out in 1937, Yichuan was still in the Kuomintang-controlled area. Under the guidance of progressives, his grandfather joined the Communist Party of China and worked secretly for the party in , Yanchang County and Yichuan County. . He secretly joined the army in March 1940, and then crossed the Yellow River east to become a soldier of the 386 brigade of the 129th Division of the Eighth Route Army. Along with division commander Marshal Liu Bocheng and brigade commander General Chen Geng's troops, they carried out the War of Resistance against Japan in the Taiyue area of ​​Shanxi (now Changzhi City, Shanxi Province), participated in the famous "Hundred Regiments War", and experienced numerous Japanese "great sweeps".

According to grandpa, he was in Li Yunlong prototype Wang Jinshan where the 386 brigade of the Eighth Route Army was located. Since November 1942, 386 brigade participated in the 30-month siege of Qinyuan , Adopted sparrow warfare , sniper warfare, mine warfare, ambush warfare, and destructive warfare, cut off the Japanese supply line, fought more than 2,700 times, and won the great victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan. Grandpa’s rapid progress is due to such an elite team. The experience of the troops is inseparable. The heroic fighters in the TV series "Bright Sword" can also be said to be the reappearance of the image and spirit of my grandpa.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in 1945, his grandfather led his company back to build the Chinese People's Liberation Army.Grandpa participated in the Shangdang battle , the Tongpu battle, Dayuncheng, Linfen, Xiangning and other battles. In one battle, the Kuomintang bullets pierced Grandpa's left arm. After a simple bandage, he continued to direct the battle until the end of the battle. In the Battle of Xiangning in July 1947, Grandpa was hit by a shell, shrapnel penetrated his left abdomen, and his left leg was facing amputation. At that time, he was fortunate enough to encounter a Shaanxi military doctor who was thinking of the township party. He was given conservative treatment and saved. Grandpa's left leg. Later, Grandpa couldn't walk easily, and the arm through which the bullet passed could not be fully extended. After the liberation of Taiyuan, his grandfather moved into the Taiyuan Military Cadre Retreat as a disabled soldier.

In fact, when he joined the army in 1940, my grandfather had already married and had three sons. After his third son, my father, came home to visit at the full moon, he broke contact with the family. For the next 11 years, the family only knew that Grandpa had gone to work outside, and there was no more news. During the 11 years of the foreign revolution, grandfather always cared about his wife and children at home, worrying about their safety. Because Yichuan is still a Kuomintang-controlled area, you can’t have any correspondence with your family, especially during the battle of Dayun City and the liberation of Linfen. The yearning and concern for his loved ones turned into an infinite revolutionary force, inspiring grandpa to work harder, looking forward to ending the war and reuniting with his family.

After the liberation of the whole country in October 1949, my family suddenly received a letter from my grandfather saying that he was still alive and was in Taiyuan, Shanxi, in the east of the river, and wanted to go home to visit relatives. When the news came, no one in the family knew that he had been fighting outside for 11 years. The grandmother was crying and crying while holding three sons. The momentary catharsis was too much joy and the grievances of life not easy. When the Spring Festival approached that year, Grandpa brought Shanxi correspondent Guo Yangyun home. After getting off the horse at the entrance of the village, grandpa ran to the house with crutches. When he descended the kiln slope, his legs and feet that were originally very inconvenient suddenly tripped grandpa and rolled all over with loess. Grandma saw him face to face. This is the 11-year old man. NS? Is this really crawling out of the dead? At this time, his eldest son was preparing to get married, and his third son, who was still in the full moon when he left, completely did not recognize that this was his father, orphan and widow for 11 years, and his family was in dilapidated condition due to lack of labor. The courtyard at home is already in ruins, and food is all a problem. My father (grandfather and third son) went to school in licorice,Suspension of school due to inability to pay rations. With grandpa's return, grandma's mood is the most complicated. For 11 years, my grandfather did not bring back a penny to the family, and he became a disabled person when he left. My grandma will not let Grandpa go to the army again and again. Seeing the changes and current situation of the family situation, my grandfather thought and weighed repeatedly, and couldn't bear to leave them behind. He decided to drag his disabled body to stay with his family. Today, when the younger generations of us talked about Grandpa's choice, we felt that if we returned to the army at that time, we would be in a better situation as a family. But when you think about it, who can understand how hard your grandma has suffered during those 11 years? I want to pull my three sons to grow up. During the confinement of raising my father, my grandmother did heavy physical work, causing the uterus to prolapse and leaving the root of lifelong disease. My uncle often cooks the farm work at home, and even my grandmother, who has nothing to wrap up, tries his best to help with the farm work. Grandma's heart is even more tormented, where is she caring about her husband day and night? Is it still alive? The people in the village advised my grandma not to wait, but no matter how hard she was, she insisted on waiting for news from grandpa. After the Spring Festival that year, the correspondent Guo Yangyun, who accompanied my grandfather, lived in my home for two months and then returned to the army to go through the formalities for his grandfather’s discharge.

When he returned to his hometown, his grandfather always remembered that he was a member of the Communist Party, and he never mentioned any personal conditions to the organization as a veteran of the Republic. He taught by precepts and deeds, paid great attention to the education and cultivation of revolutionary traditions for his children, and actively sent his second son to join the army. From the names given to our grandsons, we can also see that the grandfather's red revolution complex is deeply rooted in the bones of his grandson, the first grandson of the army, the second grandson of the army, and the third grandson of the Hongzi. My father served as a village cadre for more than ten years. He took public affairs more seriously than family affairs and never had any selfish intentions. When the household contract responsibility system was implemented, my father was the team leader and treated the worst animals and unusable animals. In the 1960s, after implementing the preferential care policy for the veteran Red Army, his grandfather was assessed as a second-class disabled soldier and enjoyed the state’s fixed supplementary treatment.
