"I am honored to visit China as a member of the corporate delegation with Prime Minister Scholz. This visit sent a strong signal: Germany and China will continue to strengthen economic and trade cooperation. In the view of BMW , bilateral ties and cooperation between Germany and China still have great potential, and will be further deepened, developed and improved, and enterprises from both sides will get more cooperation opportunities. I am full of confidence in this." Zipce said.
BMW Group officially entered China in 1994, witnessing the rapid development of China's automobile market and contributing its own strength to it. BMW has served more than 6 million Chinese customers in the past 30 years. In 2021, BMW Group sold about 846,000 BMW and MINI brand cars in China, more than 1,000 times the annual sales in 1994.
However, BMW's development in China far exceeds the sales figures themselves. Next year, FAW BMW Automobile Co., Ltd. (referred to as "FAW BMW") will celebrate its 20th birthday. At present, BMW Shenyang production base has developed into the world's largest production base of BMW Group, with two vehicle factories, an engine factory, a high-voltage battery production line and a R&D center, providing high-quality employment opportunities for more than 26,000 people, with an annual output exceeding 830,000 vehicles. Since 2010, BMW Brilliance has invested about 83 billion yuan in Shenyang, ranking among the top taxpayers in Shenyang for 16 consecutive years.
This year, BMW Shenyang production base ushered in the completion of two major expansion projects - the Dadong Factory Product Upgrade Project and the BMW Brilliance Production Base Large-scale Upgrade Project (referred to as "Rida Factory"). Among them, the completion of the Rida factory marks the smooth implementation of BMW's latest BMW iFACTORY production strategy in China. Focusing on " lean , green, and digital", BMW iFACTORY strategy aims to define future automobile production and consolidate BMW's leading position in this field. The Rida factory can turn to 100% electric vehicle production at any time according to market demand, and the new BMW i3 has been launched here. Introducing its most advanced production strategy to China, BMW Group supports China's industrial upgrading and high-quality development of with practical actions.
Zipze said that China has a comprehensive industrial system, supply chain and talent reserve, which is a global driving force in many aspects, such as digitalization, electrification and sustainability at the core of BMW Group's strategy. China will remain one of the most strategic markets of BMW Group.
At present, BMW Group has more than 460 suppliers in China, and BMW's local procurement volume alone reached RMB 71.4 billion in 2021. The cooperation between BMW Group and Chinese companies is two-way and has been supporting the development of local suppliers and industrial upgrading. For example, CATL , which has built a large battery production base in Germany. Whether in Germany or China, BMW Group is one of the most important partners of CATL.
At present, BMW Group is firmly advancing its "digital, electrified, and sustainable" development strategy in China, and accelerate its travel to the future with Chinese partners. In terms of digitalization, BMW has established the largest R&D and digital innovation system outside Germany in China, and has cooperated with Chinese high-tech companies including Baidu , Alibaba , Tencent , and actively joined the Chinese innovation ecosystem.
In terms of electrification, this year BMW Group has presented 5 pure electric models in the Chinese market, among which iX3 is produced in Shenyang and exported to the international market, and the innovative BMW i7 is called the "strongest 7 Series" and is the latest example of BMW's successful development and firm electrification transformation. In addition, BMW is also actively involved in the construction of charging infrastructure. As of the end of September, there were more than 450,000 public charging piles connected to BMW, covering more than 320 cities across the country.
Sustainable development is the original mission of BMW Group. As the first German automaker to join the "1.5-degree temperature control target", BMW Group first proposed the concept of "360-degree cycle carbon reduction" covering the entire life cycle of the car in 2020, and introduced it to China in 2021. At the same time, BMW Group actively promotes the circular economy to maximize resource utilization efficiency and reduce resource consumption.
At the second BMW Group China Sustainable Development Summit just held, BMW Group showed the latest sustainable development achievements, including signing a contract with Huayou Loop to be the first to realize the closed-loop recycling of domestic electric vehicles power battery raw materials in China, and working with Hesteel Group to build a green and low-carbon automotive steel supply chain and other breakthrough cooperation with industry.
In addition, BMW Group continues to carry out corporate social responsibility projects in China through various innovative paths, benefiting more than 11 million people in 2021 alone, including students, teachers and intangible cultural inheritors. Projects such as "BMW China Cultural Journey" and "BMW Children's Joy Home" have traveled across China and warmed countless people in need. In 2021, BMW Group officially launched the "BMW Beautiful Home Action" in China, which is also the first corporate social responsibility project in the Chinese automobile industry with the theme of protecting biodiversity protection. Since May 2022, the first phase of the project will take the lead in establishing a public education base for biodiversity protection in Liaohekou National Nature Reserve in Liaoning Province.
"Germany-China trade relations will be the bridge for the future development of bilateral relations between the two countries. The recent statements of the Chinese government on continuing to promote high-level opening up, attracting foreign investment, and insisting on innovation are encouraging. We are optimistic about the medium- and long-term development prospects of the Chinese market. BMW Group will continue to deepen cooperation with Chinese companies, advance with China, promote high-quality development and create win-win results," said Zipce.
