On October 19, 2022, analysis agency Canalys released the smartphone market data for the third quarter of 2022. The data shows that the global smartphone market has suffered a decline in the third quarter, down 9% year-on-year in the third quarter.
analysts expect this situation will continue to curb the development of the smartphone market in the next 6 to 9 months. Specifically, the performance of major brands: Samsung has achieved a market share of 22% by reducing channel inventory; Apple is the only manufacturer among the top five in this quarter to achieve positive year-on-year growth, and Apple further improves its market position with an 18% share; Xiaomi , OPP and vivo continue to expand overseas and take a cautious attitude, with global market shares of 14%, 10% and 9% respectively.

Canalys analysts believe that consumer demand has a strong impact on the performance of the smartphone market, and manufacturers are rapidly adjusting to adapt to the severe business environment. For most manufacturers, the most urgent task is to reduce the risk of inventory backlog. At the same time, various mobile phone manufacturers have adopted cautious strategies for the price of new products.
At the same time, some analysts believe that by the fourth quarter of this year and the first half of 2023, if market demand still shows no signs of improvement, manufacturers must cooperate with the supply chain to maintain a stable market share; compared with last year's peak season, sales performance in the fourth quarter of 2022 is expected to be slow, but overall remain stable. It is too early to regard the upcoming fourth quarter as a real turning point in the market recovery.
