Dogger Bank A offshore wind farm has started monopile installation in early July. The wind farm is the first phase of the Dogger Bank wind farm with a capacity of 1.2GW. Dogger Bank Wind Farm is the world's largest offshore wind farm under construction, with a total installed capacity of 3.6GW.

DEME Offshore’s installation vessel “Innovation” is scheduled to start installing the first three of the 95 monopiles for the Dogger Bank A offshore wind farm on July 13. All 95 monopiles in this phase are scheduled to be installed in the third quarter of 2023.

Sif Group is responsible for delivering all 277 monopiles for the Dogger Bank wind farm, with Smulders supplying the transition pieces. The diameter of a single pile is 8.6 meters and the total weight is 103,087 tons.

DEME Offshore is also responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of inter-array cables for all three phases of the wind farm.

As previously reported, the transportation and installation of the monopile foundation of the Dogger Bank wind farm was originally planned to be carried out by Seaway 7's new foundation installation ship "Seaway Alfa Lift", which is currently being built by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu).

However, the ship suffered a crane accident in October 2021, and the delivery time was postponed to the second half of 2023.

Subsequently, Seaway 7 decided to deploy "Seaway Strashnov" on the project before the delivery of "Alfa Lift" and chartered DEME's "Innovation" to further strengthen the installation fleet.

Offshore construction of Dogger Bank began this spring with geophysical prelay surveys on the Dogger Bank A export cable corridor, followed by export cable installation at the end of April.

Dogger Bank wind farm is owned by SSE Renewables, Equinor and Eni. Eni is transferring its stake to Vårgrønn, a renewable energy company jointly owned by Eni's energy transition arm Plenitude and HitecVision.

SSE Renewables is responsible for the construction and delivery of all three phases, while Equinor will operate the wind farm upon completion. Total investment in the Dogger Bank wind farm is expected to be approximately £9 billion (€10.47 billion).

The wind farm will include 277 GE Haliade-X 13 MW and GE Haliade-X 14 MW wind turbines, with first power scheduled to be supplied in 2023.

Once fully operational in 2026, Dogger Bank Wind Farm will be able to provide around 5% of the UK’s electricity.
