Pinglu Canal strives to start construction in 2022. After completion, it will only be 291 kilometers from Nanning to Qinzhou Port.

The latest work report of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region government stated that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, construction of a new land-sea channel in the west-the Pinglu Canal will be started. As early as a hundred years ago, Sun Yat-sen put forward the concept of "Pinglu Canal" in "Strategies for the Founding of the Country". Since then, all walks of life in Guangxi have been advancing the construction of the Pinglu Canal, but due to various reasons, they failed to do so.

At present, the Pinglu Canal project has completed the overall canal route and cascade layout plan, comprehensive utilization of water resources, research on key navigable technologies of the estuary channel and river-sea transport port area, research on navigable technical standards and navigable ship types, and canal shipping planning Research and other 5 major technical topics, and passed expert acceptance in early December 2020. Guangxi will continue to expedite the preliminary work of the project and strive to officially start construction in 2022.

The Pinglu Canal is an important passage to the sea in Guangxi's inland water transport planning. It starts at the Pingtang River estuary of Xijin Reservoir in Heng County, Nanning City, and crosses the watershed along the Shaping River to the south through Luwu Town, Lingshan County, Qinzhou City. Qinjiang goes south to the Qinzhou manhole to go to sea. The total length is about 133 kilometers, and it can pass 3000-ton sea vessels. The annual freight volume can reach more than 55 million tons on a single line and close to 100 million tons on a double line. It is planned to be completed in 2029.

The Pinglu Canal connects the Pearl River, the Xijiang River and the Beibu Gulf, and is a large channel for river-sea combined transportation. After its completion, the Nanning Via Pinglu Canal will sail from Qinzhou Port to the sea with a mileage of only 291 kilometers, which is more than 560 kilometers shorter than that through Guangdong. It will open up more economical and convenient access to the sea in Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou and other provinces, as well as southwest, central and northwest regions.
