After graduating from college in 1954, Xu Yanji went to work on a dairy farm in Shijiazhuang, while Wu Furong went to Hebei Agricultural University to become a teacher. In 1955, the two got married and started a happy time.

Unfortunately, not long after, Xu Yanji was slapped with a blame for his speech, and was immediately suspended from his job and placed under house arrest in the dormitory. At this time, Wu Furong was not comforting Xu Yanji, but full of complaints. There was no other way. In order to survive, Xu Yanji came to Jianjiang Village, Daliu Township, Xinle County, Hebei Province, a remote and poor mountain village, and supported himself by doing farm work.

But here, Xu Yanji could not see a way out in life, and because of her status as a former prisoner, no one dared to marry her. She also once fell in love with a man, but that man also stayed away from her because of her identity.

In 1969, Xu Yanji decided to leave this place where there was no hope and join his brother Zhou Lingzhong.

In fact, Xu Yanji finally contacted his brother after going through a lot of hardships. His brother Zhou Lingzhong was very concerned about his sister. Seeing that she was in a bad situation there, he asked her to come to his place and help her find a job.

After several days of travel, Xu Yanji finally arrived at the stud farm in Liulin, Mei County, Shaanxi Province, where his brother Zhou Lingzhong worked.

The moment the brother and sister met, the two middle-aged relatives who had gone through hardships hugged each other and cried.

In order for Xu Yanji to settle there, his brother Zhou Lingzhong suggested that his sister find a local to marry.

When the news came out, many people were attracted by the news that a female college student from a big city was looking for a partner in the countryside. However, when they learned that Xu Yanji had been in prison and was married, fewer and fewer people came for blind dates. Later, no one came to visit at all.

Seeing that this was not going to work, his elder brother Zhou Lingzhong took matters into his own hands and introduced the honest Wei Zhende to his sister, and claimed that he would not want a minute's gift from him.
