When I was 25 years old, I left my girlfriend I just met and went to Tibet alone.

Baiyu County

This is the city that made me cry into tears when I spent the first Mid-Autumn Festival there. Looking at the bright moon in the sky, I really want to leave this small isolated county immediately.

Passing by Baiyu, we are all destined.

After arriving at Baiyu, I was assigned to work in the Bureau of Justice. Since I also studied law at school, I was also engaged in judicial work which fits my specialty.

At that time, the Baiyu Judicial Bureau was in the government office building. There were only five or six offices in total, and there were only a dozen people in the agency. Most of the others were distributed to remote towns and villages. Different from the agencies outside, because the county has a small population and work is relatively leisurely, the most important thing is to go to the countryside to engage in legal propaganda. Because I didn't understand Tibetan, I went to the countryside with a Tibetan guy at the beginning, and then I was in charge of office work, handling official documents, and providing legal aid.

In addition to the usual work, there is one of the most important tasks is the night shift. Because of the small number of people in the unit, two people are required to be on duty every night, probably one night a week in the unit. In winter, it was extremely cold at night on the plateau. There was no bed in the office, but only sleeping on a stool in a coat, with an electric stove burning on the side. The duty is usually until 7 o'clock in the morning. Because it’s very late in winter, it’s still dark when you go home after duty. You can get some sleep in the morning.

Many of the cadres in the unit are Tibetans, and some are of Tibetan-Chinese descent. The director is a Tibetan of some Han descent. He told me that his grandfather was an old Red Army. He was injured and stayed in Luding during the Long March. Settled home. Like many Khampa guys, the director is also a person with a very distinctive personality. He is vigorous and vigorous and adheres to principles. He also emphasizes feelings and justice. The people below do not disrespect him.

In addition to our daily work, we often carry out other activities, such as planting trees on the mountain, picking up rubbish, visiting temples and so on. In the first year of work, I felt that time flies very slowly, but I got used to it from the second year, and gradually I didn’t feel too homesick.

Yaqing Temple

In addition to work,The harvest is more friendship.

Among the 18 people we went with, there were 6 teachers, 6 medical staff, and the other 6 were grassroots cadres like me. Due to the lack of entertainment, we will gather together every weekend for two years without interruption.

Because the place where I live is slightly more spacious, it has also become our base for weekly gatherings. I spent every weekend during that time like this: our "chef" knocked on the door at around 8 o'clock in the morning, entertained him and told me what to do for lunch today, and then I and I did nothing. The life committee went to the only vegetable market in the county to purchase. About ten o'clock after I come back, I will wash the vegetables and prepare the tools. By ten thirty, people came one after another, and the chef was busy in the kitchen. After I cooked the rice, I made tea for them and turned on the TV. Some of the boring ones would play poker. The afternoon is mainly drinking tea, playing cards, basking in the sun, and eating melon seeds. It’s really boring to play mobile games. It’s spent in the evening and then warm up the leftovers at noon. After dinner, most people go back, but there are a few. He continued to play with me for a while, and then slowly left after dark.

In August 2016, I returned to Chengdu after two years of aid to Tibet. The night before I left Baiyu, I sat alone on the sofa and watched the once lively living room was empty at this time. I could no longer restrain myself. Can't help crying and runny.

Baiyu Night View

Looking back on the work experience of the past two years, I have two biggest gains: One is to gain the rare friendship of war, and the other is to see it more. When I first started working, my pressure-bearing ability was particularly weak, and I often wanted to give up when I encountered a little pressure. After returning from Tibetan areas, my mind became much more open-minded, and many things that I thought were big things before have become trivial things.

More importantly, the girlfriend who sent me there kept in touch with me during my aid to Tibet, and visited me once in the middle. After returning from Tibet, we got married and had Got our first child.

It has been five years since I came back from Baiyu, and I never went back again, mainly because my wife gave birth to two babies in the past few years. In addition, the work unit is too busy, so there is no chance to go in again. Now the Yakang Expressway is open, and the tunnel of Zhuodala Mountain is also open. I don’t want it long, I should go back to Baiyu again to see if my second hometown is more beautiful than before.
