The road infrastructure digital management technology innovation team led by Professor Du Yuchuan of Tongji Transportation College focuses on the digital management of road infrastructure and carries out technical research in the fields of road performance testing and vehicle-road system interaction. The lightweight inspection technology developed by the team supported Shanghai's Xuhui District to build the country's first smart municipal road management system with separated patrol and management in 2020. It helped Shanghai build the first smart high-speed digital twin operation and management platform in 2022, and supported the digital construction of a series of major national projects such as Xiong'an New District and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.The team continues to tackle key problems in the field of static traffic digital management and intelligent services, creating a full-chain technology system that digitizes urban parking, integrates management and control, and induces intelligence, and serves the refined management of parking in many megacities, key areas, and large-scale events across the country.

Through theoretical innovation, model breakthroughs, and collaborative research, we independently developed a new generation of microscopic traffic simulation system, TESS NG. The team has delved into the core theories of transportation system modeling, simulation and optimization, pioneered new research directions in autonomous driving and vehicle-road collaboration, and is committed to providing transformative planning and decision-making methods, virtual evaluation technology and collaborative autonomous driving technology for the autonomous driving era. The team focused on key technologies such as holographic perception, global recognition, precision control, and collaborative management and control, and achieved new breakthroughs in digital twins and active management and control, and developed a new generation of trajectory-based traffic collaborative management and control theories, methods, and digital twin solutions.

The team has developed a series of application systems and core equipment such as bus operation evaluation and diagnosis, intelligent dispatching, priority control, and information service , providing innovative solutions to outstanding problems such as weak matching of supply and demand for ground buses, poor reliability, and low operating efficiency. The project results have been applied in a series of major projects and have achieved good results. Taking Shanghai as an example, the priority control response rate of the Yan'an Road medium-volume bus project reached 95%, and delays were reduced by 21%; the project result "Key Technologies and Applications of Precision Service and Efficient Management and Control of Large City Ground Buses" won the first prize of the 2020 Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award.

The Qinghai-Tibet Highway plays an important role in Tibet's economic development and social stability. In seriously diseased sections, the driving conditions of the Qinghai-Tibet Highway are still poor. To this end, Researcher Yang Zhen of Tongji Transportation College led a team to conduct risk identification and prevention research on highway reconstruction and maintenance operations in plateau and alpine areas based on the second section of the Qinghai-Tibet G109 Golmud to Nagqu highway reconstruction project. Based on the characteristics of construction projects in high-altitude areas, combined with the results of risk source identification and analysis, from the aspects of risk control measures and risk management suggestions, the team researched and formed targeted engineering construction and maintenance risk control countermeasures.
Facing the major national industrial development strategies, Tongji Jiaotong University has always focused on improving its key core technology research capabilities and accelerating the construction of an innovative country and a world science and technology power.
In 2021, led by Tongji University, Professor Du Yuchuan was the chief scientist's national key research and development project "Research on Theoretical Methods of Cyber-Physics Modeling and Assessment of Elastic Transportation Systems". The project is the first approved national-level major research project in the field of elastic transportation research. It focuses on the issue of improving the elasticity of transportation systems that is of widespread concern around the world. It proposes for the first time the construction of a general theoretical system for elastic transportation cyber-physical systems based on cyber-physical system architecture, with traceable development processes, knowable status, controllable operations, and system availability. It provides a reliable theoretical basis for the planning, design, operation management, and renewal of new-generation transportation infrastructure. The project research is expected to effectively improve the comprehensive response capabilities of my country's urban transportation system under the impact of natural disasters and emergencies, and serve to accelerate the construction of a transportation power.
In 2022, the national key research and development plan "Research on Key Technologies and Standards for Credibility Evaluation of Human-Vehicle-Road Cooperative Autonomous Driving" organized by Tongji Transportation College and Professor Yu Xiong was approved. The project unites 10 top domestic R&D institutions in the field of autonomous driving evaluation. Facing the large-scale commercial demand for autonomous driving, it proposes for the first time the credibility connotation of autonomous driving that is highly safe, highly available, understandable, predictable and traceable, and develops a credibility evaluation method system of "cluster in the loop - full chain testing - closed loop evaluation".This project will provide a reliable foundation for autonomous driving from demonstration to commercial standard certification, promote the development of the hundreds of billions of people-vehicle-road collaborative autonomous driving industry, and help accelerate the construction of a transportation powerhouse.
In addition, Professor Ye Jianhong of Tongji Transportation College aims at the new travel service model of " Internet + transportation" and focuses on the field of shared travel to study the theory of traffic travel behavior and demand forecasting methods under the Internet and information environment; Professor Cong Lin is based on his own research direction - subgrade pavement engineering, microscopic analysis of road materials, and participates in major projects such as research on asphalt pavement design indicators and parameters, and research on tunnel pavement structures and materials.
Tongji Transportation College has also made outstanding contributions in related work in the field of comprehensive transportation planning, especially in transportation planning theory and technical methods, representative planning practices, and the construction of planning research platforms. In recent years, Tongji Transportation Planning has always been based on national strategic needs, taking serving the high-quality development of Shanghai's urban and transportation infrastructure as an important goal. In view of the international problem that traditional testing cannot guarantee the full-time safety and efficient operation of the runway, Professor Ling Jianming’s team has conducted 9 years of systematic research and carried out joint industry-university-research research in aspects such as design and construction, device research and development, theoretical methods, and networking systems. It has formed a complete set of smart runway technologies and achieved a number of important innovations, which has effectively promoted the scientific and technological progress of the industry. Currently, smart runway technology has been promoted and applied in 9 civilian and military airports including Chengdu Tianfu, Beijing Capital, and Beijing Southern Suburbs. Its project research results have generally reached the international leading level, forming 3 industry standards, 2 monographs, 313 authorized national invention patents, and won the first prize of China Air Transport Association Civil Aviation Science and Technology Award.

In view of the theoretical and technical problems of asphalt pavement damage and cracking in the field of road engineering, Professor Zhu Xingyi's team proposed the asphalt two-stage self-healing model based on the wetting diffusion theory, constructed an asphalt material crack self-healing evaluation model, and developed microcapsule self-healing technology and ferrite microwave self-healing technology. , extends the fatigue life of asphalt pavement to 2.3 times ; a series of high-performance pavement disease repair materials have been developed, achieving full coverage of all stages of the development of asphalt pavement cracks, cracks, potholes, slurry and other pavement crack diseases, and solving the common technical bottlenecks of traditional pavement disease treatment technologies such as low construction efficiency, poor material durability, and multiple secondary diseases. These research results have strongly supported the innovative development of long-life, high-performance asphalt pavement construction and maintenance technology, and won the first prize of the 2021 China Highway Society Science and Technology Award.
With the gradual implementation of my country's major strategies such as ecological civilization, transportation power, and "double carbon" goals, the sustainable and resilient development of road infrastructure faces greater challenges. The ecological transformation of pavement and the research and development of new generation pavement technology are imperative.
Professor Li Hui of Tongji Transportation College focused on the ecological sustainable development of road infrastructure and developed high-performance ecological road materials with the composite functions of high water permeability, strong water purification, strong noise reduction, and strong cooling. has created road mechanics-ecological balance synergy theory and technology, and developed ecological-durable pavement efficient construction equipment and management and control platforms.
