On December 13, according to the official account of Shenyang Intermediate People's Court, the Shenyang Municipal People's Procuratorate of Liaoning Province, the case of Yu Zhigang, a former member of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress and a former member of the Constitution and Law Committee, who filed a public prosecution with the Shenyang Intermediate People's Court, was accepted by the Shenyang Intermediate People's Court on August 24, 2021, and the trial was held on November 25 of the same year. The defendant Yu Zhigang expressed his guilt and remorse in court.
On May 2, 2022, Yu Zhigang suffered a sudden cerebral hemorrhage while detaining in the Liaoning Provincial Detention Center. After rescue failed, he died on May 3. In accordance with Article 16, Paragraph (5) of the Criminal Procedure Law of the People's Republic of China, Shenyang Intermediate People's Court ruled that would terminate the trial of in the case of bribery by the defendant Yu Zhigang.

Yu Zhigang joined the Communist Party of China in December 1996, started working in July 2001, graduated from the Criminal Law major of Renmin University of China, with a postgraduate degree and a doctorate in law. He is a representative of the 13th National People's Congress , a member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, a special professor of "Yangtze River Scholars" of the Ministry of Education of China, a co-dean of the School of Rule of Law Information Management of China University of Political Science and Law, and a chairman of the Institute of Network Law of China University of Political Science and Law.
