In order to strengthen the mental health education of left-behind children and let them grow up healthily and happily, Sangzhi County’s Mental Health Education Development Center and Professor Fan Xinghua from the Department of Psychology, School of Educational Sciences, Hunan Normal University, jointly carried out a more than one month “Individual Growth Active” group psychological counseling activity in some left-behind children in the sixth grade of the 11th School. This group auxiliary activity was guided by the expert team Chen Xiaoyi of Guijing Primary School in Tianxing District, Changsha City, and was taught and implemented by Yang Fang of the Mental Health Education Development Center of the 11th School.

Group psychological counseling activities start with the relaxed and pleasant self-introduction unit of "Please call out our name". Break the ice and eliminate strangers in the sound of sharing and blessings, and form a team to form a group. Immediately afterwards, seven interactive game activity units with strong experiential and interesting features were launched, including "After Emo, Heart Skill Get", "Blow out my circle of hard work", "Let the heart sow the seeds of happiness", "I make the decision of my life", "Unlock the correct posture for help", and "Remember the words in my heart". In a relaxed atmosphere, the children actively participated and shared sincerely, and their emotions were released well. Amid the laughter, the children became more and more confident and open, and their integration was significantly enhanced.

This group psychological counseling activity aims to cultivate left-behind children to discover and find the beneficial aspects of adverse situations for growth, learn to use the skill of "establishing goals and beliefs" to improve themselves, maintain a positive and sunny attitude to face adverse situations, give full play to personal growth initiative, and achieve proactive self-change. When facing adverse situations, you can see your own social support resources, learn to seek help, and actively grow.
