Founds of colleges and universities are an important reflection of the strength of higher education in a city.
In my country, universities are generally distributed among municipalities and provincial capitals. However, there are also some non-provincial capital cities (including autonomous prefectures, hereinafter referred to as "prefecture-level cities") that have higher education strengths that cannot be underestimated, and the number of universities in some prefecture-level cities even exceeds that of some provincial capital cities.
So in the territory of prefecture-level cities, who is the real "strong city for higher education"? Let’s take a look at:
(Note: The prefecture-level cities mentioned in this article are prefecture-level cities in non-provincial capital cities.)

List of colleges and universities in non-provincial capital prefecture-level cities
Dalian
According to the latest list of general colleges and universities in the country released by the Ministry of Education, there are 31 colleges and universities in Dalian, including 21 undergraduate colleges and 10 higher vocational colleges.

Currently, among the 21 undergraduate colleges and universities in Dalian, 2 universities are " Double First-Class " universities, namely Dalian University of Technology and Dalian Maritime University . In addition, Dalian Jiaotong University, Dalian Medical University, Northeast University of Finance and Economics, Dalian Foreign Studies University and other universities located in Dalian are also well-known universities.
Among them, Northeast University of Finance and Economics takes the mission of "cultivating outstanding financial talents and serving economic and social development" and is a research university that highlights the advantages and characteristics of economics and management, and has coordinated development in multiple disciplines. In 2012, it became a university jointly built by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, and the Liaoning Provincial People's Government, and in 2017, it became a key university for building first-class universities in Liaoning Province. Finance, industrial economics, accounting, etc. are all key disciplines in the country and "national characteristic key disciplines" approved by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.
Suzhou City
Suzhou City has 25 universities, including 8 undergraduate universities and 17 higher vocational colleges.

Although in the national list of ordinary universities released by the Ministry of Education, Suzhou only has 8 undergraduate universities, including only one "Double First-Class" in Suzhou University, Suzhou, the strongest prefecture-level city, is currently building universities crazily. Many "Double First-Class" universities have signed contracts with Suzhou City and will "settling" here. I believe that in the near future, more prestigious campuses in Suzhou will begin to recruit undergraduate students.
At present, Suzhou City is also vigorously supporting local universities, and its support for local universities such as Suzhou University, Suzhou University of Science and Technology, Changshu Institute of Technology, etc. is not weak. Xi'an Jiaotong University Liverpool , located in Suzhou, is a Sino-foreign cooperative college. It was founded by Xi'an Jiaotong University and the University of Liverpool in the UK. It is currently the largest Sino-foreign cooperative university in China. It started with science and engineering management and has the right to grant degrees from the People's Republic of China, bachelor's degree from the People's Republic of China and Liverpool University in the UK.
Qingdao
Qingdao has 24 universities, including 13 undergraduates and 11 higher vocational colleges.

Among the 13 undergraduate colleges in Qingdao, Ocean University of China and China University of Petroleum (East China) are "Double First-Class" universities. In recent years, Qingdao City has also actively introduced and prepared to build new universities, and key universities in Shandong Province such as Shandong University of Science and Technology, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, and Qingdao University of Science and Technology have also made great progress.
Qingdao University carries the history of the development of higher education in Qingdao. The school has developed based in Qingdao, and in the integrated development, it has formed a new pattern of coordinated development of multidisciplinary development with obvious regional advantages in medical education, distinctive characteristics of engineering education, science, humanities and social sciences and other disciplines, rapid development of normal education, and accelerated development of new materials, new energy, new generation information technology and emerging cultural and creative disciplines.
In addition, many prefecture-level cities such as Quanzhou City, Xiamen City, Baoding City, Weifang City, Xiangtan City, Xianyang City, Guilin City, etc. have their own universities. Some "Double First-Class" colleges such as Xiamen University, Xiangtan University , Northwest A&F University are distributed in these cities. Some colleges and universities distributed in these cities, such as Huaqiao University, Hebei University , Yantai University , Guangxi Normal University , etc. are not weak. At present, many prefecture-level cities are continuing to actively develop higher education. Would you choose universities in these cities?
