Taiyuan University of Technology legal education has a long history and profound background. The predecessor of the school was Shanxi University Tang Xixue Special School founded in 1902. It had legal courses at the beginning and opened a special law subject in 1906.

In November 2019, Taiyuan University of Technology, based on the former School of Political Science and Law, merged the undergraduate major of Chinese International Education and Humanities and Social Sciences Education Base of the School of International Education Exchange, and established the School of Literature and Law, with three departments, including law studies, public management, Chinese International Education , as well as the MPA Center (Master of Public Administration Major) and Humanities and Social Sciences Education Base.

Han Yang Jianhua, deputy dean of the School of Legal Affairs, Taiyuan University of Technology, introduced that this year marks the 120th anniversary of the founding of Taiyuan University of Technology. In recent years, the school's law major has flourished and was approved as a national first-class undergraduate major construction point in 2021.

Yang Jianhua said that the discipline construction of the Department of Law, School of Literature and Law, Taiyuan University of Technology, actively connects with the new era and new requirements. While continuously consolidating the legal foundation, it will give full play to the advantages of the school's engineering science subjects, pay attention to the combination of law and technology, conduct in-depth research on legal issues in the fields of "dual carbon" action, cultural relics protection, energy revolution, etc., and introduce them into classroom teaching.

In addition, in the field of intellectual property rights, in 2020, Taiyuan University of Technology was selected as the "National Intellectual Property Pilot Universities" (the only one in Shanxi as of now), and was selected as the second batch of National Intellectual Property Information Service Center of Colleges and Universities in the same year; in 2021, the "Taiyuan University of Technology Intellectual Property Research Institute" was jointly established with the Shanxi Provincial Intellectual Property Office. General education and professional education integrated development

Taiyuan University of Technology has a distinctive talent training model - the " Academy-made " education model. In terms of professional training, the Law Department of the School of Legal Affairs of Taiyuan University of Technology divides talent training into two categories: research-oriented and applied-oriented, focusing on teaching according to their aptitude. "We adopt different teaching methods for these two types of students." Yang Jianhua said that the cultivation of legal research talents mainly focuses on consolidating theoretical foundations, expanding research horizons, strengthening problem awareness, and broadening subject backgrounds, and cultivating legal application talents to carry out educational and teaching activities around the development of the times, social needs, and work characteristics.

In addition, the Department of Law, School of Legal Affairs, Taiyuan University of Technology, has always emphasized the importance of practical teaching. In addition to setting up special practical links such as cognitive internships, graduation internships, mock courts, academic year thesis, graduation thesis, etc., the department also clearly requires that the compulsory courses must include practical learning hours, and requires teachers of each course to continuously strengthen students' application of theoretical knowledge through various forms of practical methods during the teaching process, so as to improve students' ability to use theoretical knowledge to solve practical problems.

In order to enable students to go out of campus and carry out social practice in depth, teachers from the Law Department of the School of Literature and Law of the school have led students to carry out "Sending Law to the Countryside" public welfare legal publicity activities in rural and communities in Shanxi Province for several consecutive years to help local rural revitalization. Today, this activity has become the "public welfare business card" of Taiyuan University of Technology.

Yang Jianhua said that in the future, the college will also establish internship bases in Intellectual Property Court, Arbitration Committee , national cultural relics protection units, etc., continuously reform practical teaching system in the teaching plan, and establish a "college-level college student scientific research training project", give full play to students' innovative consciousness and strengthen students' legal application ability. At the same time, special funds will be allocated to support undergraduate students to actively participate in high-level legal academic conferences and expand their academic horizons.

Strengthen teachers and help the practice of the rule of law

For many years, the Department of Law of Taiyuan University of Technology has adhered to the concept of "combining introduction and education, taking multiple measures". Currently, the department has 21 full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 6 associate professors, and 8 have doctoral degrees. The proportion of law professors teaching undergraduates reaches 100%.

In December 2020, Taiyuan University of Technology cooperated with Shanxi Provincial Department of Justice to establish the "Shanxi Provincial Administrative Legislation Base". Many teachers from the Law Department of the Court were selected as members of the Shanxi Provincial Administrative Legislation Expert Database.

Yang Jianhua said that the Law Department of the Court will further increase the efforts to attract talents in the future, and plans to introduce 3-6 outstanding young doctors in law within three years , hire well-known domestic legal scholars to serve as full-time or part-time professors, inherit and carry forward the "teacher-admission system", and old teachers serve as the mentors of young teachers, play the role of "transmission and help" to guide young teachers to grow rapidly, and further optimize the teaching structure of the law department. At the same time, teachers are encouraged to visit high-level universities at home and abroad, young doctoral teachers are encouraged to go to postdoctoral mobile stations or postdoctoral workstations to engage in postdoctoral research on the job, support and encourage teachers to actively participate in large-scale national academic conferences, and strive to improve the scientific research ability and academic level of the teacher team.
