Ningbo University was founded in 1986 . At the beginning of its establishment, it was built by five universities in Peking University , Fudan University , Zhejiang University , China University of Science and Technology , and the former Hangzhou University five schools. In 1992, it was included in the first batch of admission institutions for college admissions in the country. In 1996, the former Ningbo University, Ningbo Normal University and Zhejiang University of Fisheries merged to form the Xin Ningbo University.
In 2011, it became a university jointly built by the State Oceanic Administration and Ningbo .
