In 2021, there were 529,300 schools of all levels and types across the country, with 291 million students; compared with 2012, the number of schools increased by more than 6,300, and the number of students increased by more than 28 million. In 2021, the average number of years of education for the working-age population reached 10.9 years, an increase of 1.0 years from 2012. Among them, the proportion of higher education was 24.9%, an increase of 10.3 percentage points from 2012. The country has more than 218 million people with university education.
Compulsory education course construction such as music, sports, art and labor has been significantly strengthened
In 2021, the number of teachers in sports, art and labor technology courses in the compulsory education stage reached 674,000, 830,000 and 109,000 respectively, an increase of 55.4%, 52.3% and 18.3% respectively compared with ten years ago. 95% of schools across the country can ensure that students have one hour of physical exercise every day at school, and nearly 87% of students receive art education in primary and secondary schools.
About 50,000 college graduates go to rural primary and secondary schools to teach each year
In 2021, there were 18.444 million full-time teachers at all levels and types in schools across the country, an increase of 26.2% over 2012. The problem of insufficient number of teachers has been effectively alleviated for a long time. 28 provinces across the country implement public education for teacher trainees in local colleges and universities, with about 50,000 college graduates teaching in rural primary and secondary schools every year.
Vocational education basically covers all areas of the national economy
In 2021, higher vocational (junior college) enrolled 5.526 million students, 1.8 times that of ten years ago. The vocational school in nationwide has more than 1,300 majors and more than 120,000 professional points, basically covering all areas of the national economy.
Secondary and higher vocational schools (excluding technical school ) have trained more than 79 million graduates in the past ten years, providing more than 70% of new employees for modern manufacturing , strategic emerging industries and modern service industries.
