How often do you change your mobile phone? Based on my own experience,
said that 8 years ago, the phone was replaced every year, 5 years ago, it was replaced every 3 years, and now, the phone is replaced only when it breaks down. In fact, during the peak period of and apple , the author did have a "try new" mentality. According to Apple's rhythm of releasing new products every year, the author also followed the rhythm of new products every year. From iPhone4, iPhone5, iPhone6 to iPhone7, the author did not miss almost every new product.

But until the iPhone8 was released, the author had already slowed down the frequency of changing phones. It was not until the release of iPhone7 that iPhone X was released that I changed to a new phone again. The last time I changed my phone was more than a year ago. Due to the downtime of iPhone X, I had no choice but to replace it with iPhone12 Pro Max. The reason for reducing the frequency of machine replacement can be summed up in three words: it is unnecessary.

Regardless of iPhone or Android phone, the author clearly feels that the difference is getting smaller and smaller. Regardless of iPhone14 Pro Max or iPhone 11, there will be no obvious difference in usage experience. It is difficult for today’s smartphones to give people a sense of “wow” surprise, so consumers’ desire to shop has become less and less.

After entering 2022, many mobile phone manufacturers have also reported that smartphones are “unsaleable”. This is not only a crisis faced by domestic mobile phones, Apple, Samsung and other international brands are also not immune. The shipment volume of iPhone14 series is significantly lower than expected. Obviously, the smartphone market is under great pressure to ship.
According to the IDC report, the pressure on the smartphone market will not decrease in 2023. It is expected that the mobile phone shipments of for the whole year will decline by 0.9% year-on-year compared with , and it may not bottom out until 2024. The development prospects are not optimistic.

It is worth mentioning that according to estimates by industry organizations, the replacement cycle of domestic smartphones will increase to 34 months, which means that consumers will only buy a new phone every 2 years and 10 months on average. This is indeed not good news for mobile phone manufacturers. Smartphones may not be sold at all in 2023.

To be honest, if smartphone manufacturers still cannot change the problem of serious homogeneity and lack of innovation, then consumers will not be interested. There is no need to spend five or six thousand to replace a mobile phone with a small appearance difference and almost the same user experience. What's more, under the influence of YQ, consumers will be more cautious in purchasing decisions, so mobile phone manufacturers will be under increasing pressure.

As far as domestic mobile phones are concerned, the biggest problem at present is the lack of product competitiveness. After and Huawei were "stuck", more and more mobile phones were produced and began to take the high-end route. However, high-end mobile phones are not simply assembling high-end components. This is also a mistake made by most domestic mobile phone manufacturers. The reason why Apple and Samsung are able to gain a foothold in the high-end mobile phone market is because they have their own core technologies, such as self-developed chips and self-developed operating systems.

Isn’t the reason why Huawei can surpass Apple and Samsung because of its self-developed Kirin chip and self-developed Hongmeng system? Therefore, domestic mobile phone manufacturers still need to work harder on scientific research. It is not easy to develop self-developed chips, but there is no future in simply stacking materials.
