A year after late 2021's Oppo Find N was a foldable phone that defied form factor standards, the N2 once again defies size and proportion standards in the "full-size" phone-to-tablet realm. Let's see what has changed.

Oppo Find N2 Unboxing

The Find N2 comes in a similar box to its predecessor – with the same kinetic design, opening the lid lifts the phone compartment towards you. It’s not all black this time – the top is painted a light bluish gray. While the phone may have shrunk in size and weight, its packaging has actually grown in all three directions—for a total of 30 percent more volume. The

charger is more powerful - at least spec-wise, if the physical size isn't that big (67W vs 33W). Also included is a cable (USB-A-to-C).

Design, build quality, handling

Oppo got something right from the start that other big foldable device makers haven't seemed to figure out yet - form factor. The original Find N from a year ago was a small but very usable smartphone that folded into a square, compact tablet that leaned more toward landscape orientation. It was a unique approach at the time, and nothing has changed now with the Find N2.

Find N2 iterates on the concept of its predecessor and gives you a 5.54-inch display on the outside, perfect for general one-handed operation, phone calls, and other tasks that don't require a lot of screen real estate. Oppo likes to compare the Find N2's external screen experience to that of the Galaxy Z Fold4, and in fact, the Find's proportions make more sense.

Galaxy's case display has a 6.2-inch diagonal, and the Fold's long sides (23.1:9 this year) mean that 12% of the diagonal length only translates into 5% of the area, since a display as narrow as the Galaxy's gets in the way of keyboard use. In this regard, the Find N2 wins hands down.

One thing that can be pointed out is that other large foldable phones are not as narrow as the Fold, such as the Mix Fold 2 or even the conceptually completely different Huawei Mate Xs 2. But they are much taller (and, by extension, ultimately much larger than the Find N2).

So in the realm of "large" foldable devices, the Find N2 is still the most physically compact, without really sacrificing usability in its smartphone form - on the contrary, it's arguably even better than the "baseline" Galaxy Z Fold4.

Admittedly, we're just talking about the footprint, essentially, and even though it's compact in both dimensions, the Find N2 is still a bit small if you compare it to a traditional candy bar smartphone. But at 14.6mm around the waist, it's also much thicker than some foldable phones like the Mix Fold 2 or Mate Xs 2 (both over 11mm). That's after Oppo managed to reduce the thickness from 15.9mm on the previous generation.

On the other hand, comparison with the Fold4 does make the Find N2 look a lot better. The Galaxy's folding thickness varies between 14.2 and 15.8 mm, while the Find is at the lower end of that range. Additionally, it folds on its own without any noticeable gap between the two halves, which is a persistent problem with Samsung's foldable phones.

The other aspect is weight, and the Find N2 wins hands down. Oppo says the new model is 42 grams lighter than the original, which is an impressive feat.

Find N2 is available in three colourways, white and green with a Gorilla Glass Victus back, and these versions weigh 237 grams. The black model has an eco-leather back panel and is 4 grams lighter at 233 grams.

Going from phone to tablet is a pleasant and trouble-free operation - a significant improvement over the previous generation. You can try doing it with one hand.

The weight of the spring in the hinge keeps it from feeling like the phone is fighting you—it does the job while providing just the right amount of resistance. It's also designed to hold any intermediate angle between 45 and 125 degrees, supporting use cases like "Tripod" mode for selfies taken from a table or waist-level photography where the viewfinder is parallel to the ground.

Oppo will tell you that they reduced the number of parts within the hinge by 100 - 38 compared to previous designs, which helps reduce weight somewhat. This second-generation Flexion hinge uses carbon fiber and aerospace-grade alloys and is rated for 400,000 actuations. When

unfolds, Find N2 manages to maintain a nearly crease-free surface along the centerline.

Brighter 7.1-inch display inside, 5.54-inch on the case

Find N2 hides a 7.1-inch LTPO AMOLED display inside, which is fully revealed when unfolded. Its specs are very similar to the previous generation, with the same diagonal and 1,792x1,920 pixel resolution (an aspect ratio of 8.4:9), with a pixel density of 370ppi for and . The 120Hz maximum refresh rate also remains unchanged, but Oppo promises an increase in brightness numbers.

What you're looking at is a 5.54-inch AMOLED with a resolution of 1,080x2,120 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. It's a new panel, and in addition to a higher resolution and slightly larger diagonal compared to the Find N, you also get 120Hz refresh rate support - the old panel was limited to a rather disappointing 60Hz. This one should also be brighter than before.

Oppo Find N2 Battery Life

Find N2 is powered by a 4,520mAh battery - a 20mAh increase in capacity over the previous generation. It's more or less the standard capacity for the segment - the Z Fold4 has a 4,400mAh battery pack, while the Mix Fold 2 and Mate Xs 2 have 4,600mAh.

Find N2 improved in all "active" tests, but failed to match the original model's standby efficiency, ultimately lowering the overall endurance rating to 83 hours.

Charging speed

Find N2 improves on the N(1)'s 33W charging capability and doubles the power rating to 67W. A charger that meets this rating is also bundled.

Android and ColorOS, both v.13

Our Find N2 review unit arrived running Android 13 with ColorOS 13 on top, albeit in a China-specific flavor. This is a welcome development, as last year's Find N was already out of date with Android 11, even with ColorOS 12 on it. (Side note – our Find N is still on Android 11.)

We’ve already seen some Realme with ColorOS 13 and Android 13, so we’ve already encountered some cosmetic changes. As for the tablet-specific bits in Oppo's overlay, the Find N2 is probably the first of its kind we've experienced, although the original tablet and other ColorOS tablets do already have pretty extensive multitasking capabilities. The continuity between the two screens is apparently unique to foldable devices, though.

Performance and Benchmarks

Find N2 is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. In a way, this is a year behind the latest, bearing in mind that the phone is now launching with Gen 2, which will be what's included in next year's flagships. The Find N2, on the other hand, came out a year after the N (1), and the chipset is a year newer - the Find N is also a bit out of date. It's like the Find N2 will lack power and more importantly the SD 8 Gen 2 has some efficiency benefits that the Oppo foldable phone will miss out on.

There are a few updates on the back, and it's somewhat identical to the selfie

Foldable phones don't typically come with industry-leading camera hardware, and the original Find N followed the norm of just simple, easy-to-use modules. The status of the second generation is similar, but we only say that the new settings are still and .

These improvements can be seen on the telephoto lens , and probably even more so on the ultra-wide-angle lens. The zoom camera is still 2x, but now has a larger 1/2.74" sensor (up from 1/3.4"). This is a 32MP Sony IMX709 sensor with RGBW color filters that still does 4 to 1 pixel binning and outputs an 8MP image. In a sense, it's a step down from the Find N's 13MP telephoto camera at the time, especially for daytime shooting, which, as we'll see later, isn't often used at night.

It now features a Sony IMX581 Quad Bayer sensor with a 1/2.0" large optical format and 0.8µm pixels. The lens has a quoted 14mm equivalent focal length and f/2.2 Aperture, but perhaps the most important development here is that autofocus allows you to shoot close-ups and increase the diversity of framing and subjects.

The main camera is based on a Sony 1/1.56" sensor, again a Quad Bayer with 1.0µm pixels. Promotional material says it's an IMX890, about which the internet knows very little, while the hardware app reports an IMX766, with Find N's. Either way, you'll be getting 12.5MP images by default. The stabilized lens has a 24mm equivalent focal length and f/1.8 aperture.

has several identical selfie cameras, each with a hole cut into one of the displays. Oddly, while the resolution is still 32MP, they are no longer the Sony-based units in the Find N, but units from Samsung . The JD1 Tetrapixel sensor has a 1/3.14" optical format and 0.7µm pixels, and it's placed behind a fixed-focal-length 22mm equivalent f/2.4 lens. All of this is twice as powerful.

Select

Galaxy Z Fold4 It's the obvious choice, and you can have one pretty much anywhere in the world. However, it's the bulkiest form factor and has the most noticeable crease on its display, although it does struggle with IPX8 waterproofing - no competing foldable offers this. Then there's the OneUI, which probably makes the most of its tablet status, with the Find One. Tons of features and versatility that can't quite be matched. The Oppo does fit into smaller pockets, though, has a more usable cover screen, and the landscape tablet implementation feels more natural. The Find is also a better-looking device - the Galaxy's folded wedge shape never ceases to be an eyesore.

Huawei Mate Xs 2 is also available, which only has a flexible display on the outside. However, it's essentially a plastic display that's always exposed, so there are durability issues.

Moving on to the Mix Fold 2, it's one of the sexiest designs in the industry, and perhaps you can forgive its lack of stability in its half-expanded state. Oppo might be a slightly better camera phone. What we can say is that the second generation The Oppo foldable phone retains all the features of the original that made it a unique product and builds on it to create an overall better product.
