Ford said the tire pressure monitoring system indicator light may not illuminate when a vehicle's tire pressure is too low, which may result in customers not receiving adequate warning of the low tire pressure condition. Ford explains that the problem is because the recommended tire cold inflation pressure value in the body control module (BCM) is incorrectly set to 35 psi instead of the correct inflation pressure of 42 psi. Therefore, the warning will not sound until the tire pressure is below 35 psi, 7 lbs below the correct warning threshold.

The 18-inch wheel and tire combination that is standard on Pro and XLT trims is not included in the recall. But customers who order the XLT trim can also choose to add 20-inch wheels, but the Pro trim is only available with 18-inch wheels and tires. This recall only affects vehicles equipped with 20-inch and 22-inch tires.

Regarding low tire pressure, which can adversely affect a vehicle’s drivability and safety, Ford said: “Low tire pressure may cause poor vehicle handling and may result in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a collision. "Formal notification from Ford to dealers will begin on June 27, and customers will begin on June 28.
