As we all know, temples are places for practice and can accept incense, offerings and donations from people.

Many places in the temple also have merit boxes to encourage the people to do more good deeds, accumulate more virtue and do good deeds, and pray for peace and blessings.

But there is such a temple, which is like a "clear stream" among many temples.

It neither charges entrance tickets nor sets up merit boxes, and also prohibits pilgrims from donating money. The temple rules are so strict that they are scary. What's going on?

In ancient times, people used to call the place where monks lived a temple and the place where nuns lived a sage.

But there is an exception. Although the people living inside are all women, they are also called temples. This is Daoyuan Temple in Liaoning.

Daoyuan Temple was originally named Guanyin Temple. It was in Jiewen Town, Haicheng, Liaoning Province. It is the lower courtyard of the famous temple Dabei Temple in Liaoning Province. It is about 60 kilometers away from the upper courtyard Dabei Temple.

Daoyuan Temple was founded by Niu Miaorong under the guidance of the monks of Dafeng Temple in 2001, and it has been more than twenty years since then.

Although the temple was not established for a long time, Daoyuan Temple is located in a very quiet area. It is located in the deep mountains and surrounded by mountains. Whenever the smoke lingers, it is like a paradise, and it is far away from all the hustle and bustle of the world.

The original purpose of the establishment of Daoyuan Temple was to relieve the increasing pressure on Daoyuan Temple monks and to separate the men and women monks, Daoyuan Temple opened Xiayuan Daoyuan Temple.

So the practitioners in the temple only have one gender, and all the monks in it are women.

0 The newly established Daoyuan Temple had few female nuns, with only two. It was not until July 2002 that the temple had repeatedly tested the 17 female lay Buddhists who practiced here that they agreed to be ordained and become monks.

These female monks who were ordained and became monks were all inspired by Buddhism and voluntarily gave up fame and fortune in the world and came here to practice asceticism.

There are many workplace elites and intellectuals among them, but for various reasons, they voluntarily gave up their secular identity and completely cut off the world. From then on, they no longer greed for everything in the world, and only seek to focus on the Tao and promote Buddhism.

Although Daoyuan Temple has not been long since its establishment, in just over twenty years, the permanent population of the temple has reached 100, including more than fifty monks, more than 30 monks, and more than twenty female lay Buddhists who came to the temple to work temporarily.

You may think that it’s just a maternal family? What’s the difficulty?

But I think it is difficult to become a monk in Daoyuan Temple.

3

Although Daoyuan Temple is not large in scale, the rules in the temple are quite large, which even sounds a bit scary. Even some male monk temples do not have such strict precepts.

Buddhism says: There is no difficulty in reciting the Buddha's name. The difficulty lies in one mind, and there is no difficulty in one mind. The difficulty lies in cutting off the root of love.

It is not difficult to recite the Buddha's name, but it is difficult to cultivate the mind.

If you want to come to Daoyuan Temple to become a monk, you must first to cut off love and lose love . Not only should you cut off love, but you must even give up family affection. Secondly, you must be mentally prepared for hard work.

The nuns who practice here all need to be ascetic monks. In addition to abandoning the world, they also have to go through more than 2-3 years of strict test before they can become monks. The precepts after becoming monks are extremely strict.

Daoyuan Temple is like a place that specializes in suffering. Everyone in the temple practices according to the same rules every day, repeating itself.

They get up at 2 a.m. every day, chant sutras, then sit in meditation, chant Buddha's name, and listen to the Dharma.

Have a meal at noon.

After lunch, 150 monks beat boards, run incense and meditate on time. The meditation time is "five incense", which means the length of the five incense needs to be burned.

is about to rest on time at 10 pm, and the bed time for this day is only 4 hours.

has this kind of routine every day, which is scary to think about, but the nuns in Daoyuan Temple repeat this kind of life every day. Although they are women, their perseverance is amazing.

Daoyuan Temple also almost cut off all non-essential external contacts, and there are no computers, TVs, mobile phones and other electronic products in the temple.

There is no Buddhist ritual in the temple. Monks and monks who have the will to become monks are not allowed to go out at ordinary times. If there is something, they must go out for processing, such as illness, and they must be arranged by the permanent residence to allow them to go out.

All people in the temple must strictly abide by the 8 precepts including eating one meal a day :

The first precept: Keep the precept of not catching money.

Second Ring: One meal a day.

The third precept: walking and begging for food.

The fourth precept: Do not accept guests’ monk’s ceremony.

The fifth precept: All offerings belong to the eternal residence.

The sixth precept: The three robe and bowl are inseparable from the body.

The Seventh Precept: Don’t beg for alms or ask for help.

The Eighth Precepts: Follow the teachings. These precepts of

seem simple, but persistence in this way will not only test the physical strength of the female monks, but also test their will. Only by focusing on the Tao and piously tempering can we stay in Daoyuan Temple.

4

Generally, temples hope that they can be famous and have a prosperous incense.

Because incense is an indispensable existence for a temple, it can not only represent the prosperity of a temple, but also bring a certain income to the temple, but it is not allowed in Daoyuan Temple.

not only does not allow publicity or incense to be collected here, but also does not have a merit box.

If you don’t engage in publicity, you cannot attract tourists. Without a merit box, you cannot engage in business transactions. This will cut off the source of money from the root. However, there will be a circulation place in the temple, and the scriptures, Buddha statues and other Dharma objects in the circulation place will be free for pilgrims to review.

The reason why Daoyuan Temple acts like this is because their first precept is the precept of not catching money.

0 The precept of not catching money means that the monks in the temple follow the Buddha's precepts and must not touch money or save money for life.

So money is useless to them. All food, clothing, housing and transportation depend on themselves. They have to make water, vegetables, and grain by themselves. Even the clothes they wear should be simple and simple. The regular clothes throughout the year are gray monk's robes. Some clothes are worn out, so they patch them themselves and sew them one by one.

In an era of material desires, the female monks in Daoyuan Temple proved with their practical actions that money is not omnipotent.

If practitioners regard money as dirt, then the second precept of Daoyuan Temple is not something that ordinary people can accept and persist in daily meals.

As the saying goes, "People are iron and rice are steel. If you don't eat a meal, you will be hungry." If you don't eat a meal, you can still persist. If you don't eat every day or every year, it is very admirable.

In Daoyuan Temple, monks must quit their appetite according to the temple rules. All nuns can only eat one meal every day, and do not eat after lunch, and only eat vegetarian food every day. This is a great test for the nuns' bodies.

The vegetarian rice in the temple is usually mainly rice, cabbage, potatoes and tofu. In order to avoid killing, the nuns will carefully pick out the bugs in the rice and vegetables before cooking and stir-frying, and will only split and cook after picking.

This dietary habit has caused the female monks in the temple to look very thin, and because of their vegetarianism, their mental state is very full.

The most special precept in Daoyuan Temple is walking.

Daoyuan Temple girl adheres to the Six Harmony and Respects and practices according to the Eight Respects. Every half month, she goes to the Grand Priest Temple in Shangyuan to ask for advice. She lives in summer from April 15 to July 15 every year, and begs for food on August 15 every year, and practices at the top of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the head of the summer every year.

The so-called "Taotuo practice, also known as the "Taotuo", refers to the practice of the spring and autumn seasons, requiring monks to go out to go out to the Bodhisattva Path. This is also a way for monks to practice the path of suffering and endure hardships.

Now there are very few ascetic monks , and there are even fewer female ascetic monks. However, in Daoyuan Temple, ascetic is something they must do every year.

After the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month every year, the female monks in Daoyuan Temple will go out for about 15 days, and they will never leave their bowls while they are traveling. They can only beg for food from people, not for money.

The journey is very long and very hard. The nuns have to carry heavy luggage. They cannot live in hotels, people, or temples on the way. They can only use the sky as their quilt and the earth as their seats.

Sleeping outside in the open is both a practice and a challenge for the thin nuns.

5

In August, the temperature difference between morning and evening in Liaoning became larger, and it was already very cold at night. Because everyone only carries a thin sleeping bag in their carry-on bags, haystacks and caves often become places for them to rest.

These places will be warmer than sleeping on the road. With such arduous conditions, no one has ever spoken of hardships, nor has one retreated. They rely on their own beliefs and just walk with the flow.

The nuns will help each other and support each other.

They cannot carry food themselves and need to beg for food along the way. Kind believers will provide them with vegetarian food, and some even take the initiative to give them money, but the nuns will only accept food, not money.

Because nuns keep the precepts, they are not allowed to take items in their hands, so kind-hearted male believers can only place them on the road first when giving nun water and food.

During begging, the food that everyone begs for is definitely different, but everyone will not eat it secretly. All the food that begs for will be handed over to a dedicated person and will be distributed by a dedicated person, so that the food that everyone eats is the same.

During the entire journey, the nuns in Daoyuan Temple not only used asceticism to temper themselves, but also did not forget to preach scriptures, recite the Dharma, and educate sentient beings.

They will explain the scriptures to believers on the way. When they meet a funeral at home, they will also help chant scriptures and save them. If they encounter dead animals on the way, they will also bury them with compassion and save them. In their eyes, sentient beings are equal.

As of now, the footprints of female monks in Daoyuan Temple have spread across many places. They have traveled to many provinces such as Liaoning, Hebei, Jilin, Heilongjiang, etc., and will continue to go on.

"Hydrangea white face, you must know that you have flesh skeletons, beautiful red makeup, but you can just mist the clothes and leak the toilet."

The woman at the age of the age resolutely cut off her concerns in the world, cut off her long hair, and sucked her scars on her. She embarked on the road of walking every year, repeating her mind and nature, constantly tempering her mind and praying for all living beings, and having a hard time, and her heart is free.

Now, Daoyuan Temple has become more and more well-known to more and more people with its unique charm, and has attracted many women who yearn for practice.

Today, when the commercialization of Buddhism is becoming increasingly serious, there are still such a group of monks who practice asceticism for the faith in their hearts, which makes people feel awe. They prove to the world with practical actions that as long as there is faith in their hearts, there will be strength under their feet and their souls will have a home.
