Many tourists want to take a photo to check in when they go to the temple, but they are a little hesitant because they often hear people say that you cannot take photos of the holy statues in the temple. Is this true? Can I take pictures? In fact, the answer is not absolute.
I visited a master some time ago and asked for advice on this question. The answer the master gave me was a bit surprising. The master told me: it is allowed to take pictures, but the prerequisite is what is the purpose of taking pictures. If you have the mentality of checking in and playing, the purpose of taking pictures is just to post to a circle of friends and let your friends know that you have checked in at a certain temple. This situation is not recommended.
The reason why some temples say it is forbidden to take photos is because the master in the temple is worried that you will cause bad karma by taking random photos, so he kindly reminds you not to take photos. This kind of reminder does not mean that you cannot take photos.

If you can’t take pictures at all, where do the photos we usually see come from? Obviously you can take pictures, even the master in the temple often takes pictures of the holy statues.
Because they are respectful when taking photos, and the photos they take are used to spread positive energy, not to satisfy their own check-in needs, so they can take photos. If you also have this mentality, you can also take photos, but you must pay attention to the following points.

First of all, a temple is a clean place. Going to a temple is different from going to other scenic spots. We cannot affect others when taking pictures, and we cannot make loud noises. If someone is offering incense and blocking your taking pictures, you have to wait quietly for others to leave before taking pictures.
When taking pictures, you must first bow and be respectful. Most of the sculptures in the temple are coated with a layer of gold foil. This layer of gold foil is very fragile, especially because we are afraid of flash. Therefore, when taking pictures, we must not turn on the flash, even if the light is too dark, we cannot turn on the flash.

This is one of the reasons why taking pictures is prohibited, because many people forget to turn off the flash when taking pictures. If every tourist takes pictures like this, the life of the icon will be shortened, so the sign prohibiting taking pictures is written to warn tourists.
Before we take pictures, if it doesn’t say that photography is prohibited, you can take pictures. But if it says that photography is prohibited, you have to ask the staff and get their permission before you can take pictures.
The photos you take should be properly stored and used to spread positive energy as much as possible. If you are not doing it for spreading and just want to see it for yourself, that’s fine, but you must treat the photos with respect.
