Guanghua Temple in Wutai Mountain is said to have been built in the Northern Wei Dynasty. Most of the original buildings have disappeared in the long river of time. The oldest existing building site in Guanghua Temple is the octagonal pavilion-style stone pagoda in the backyard of the Northern Song Dynasty. This three-meter-high stone pagoda is made of bluestone. The waist-shaped Xumi base at the lower part of the pagoda is engraved with dragons, lions, tigers and deer mythical animals.
On the front of the building is engraved: The Tower of the Ten Palaces of Virtue of Jin Tan Lang from the Song Dynasty. The font is strong and powerful. The other side of the building is engraved with Dharani sutras and mantras. It is faintly discernible under the erosion of wind and rain. It is the most precious cultural relic of Guanghua Temple. remains.
Most of the buildings in Guanghua Temple we see today were rebuilt by a lama during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. The temple faces south from high to low, with a grand and majestic building, solemn and deep. It has the luxurious and exquisite architectural features of the Qing Dynasty and the style of Huangjiao temples. It is a typical Han Chinese "Lama Temple".
On the central axis of the temple are the mountain gate, Tianwang Hall, Wenshu Hall, Wenshu attic, and there are nine monks' dormitories in the east and west. The mountain gate and Tianwang Hall here are built separately, with a wide stone stepway separated by a distance.
Most of the temples in Wutai Mountain close at 5 or 6 pm. After all, the masters in the temples also need to take a rest. It is also inconvenient for tourists or believers to visit at night.
In 2019, through the planning of the monks of Guanghua Temple, Guanghua Temple was built into an "Internet celebrity temple" with gorgeous night views and splendid scenery. It is the only Yellow Sect temple in Mount Wutai that is open to tourists at night.
