Surgical robot expands the German market
On December 19, 2022, Asensus Surgical Company (NYSE: ASXC) announced a partnership with the German hospital Gesundheits- und Pflegezentrum Klinikum of Rüsselsheim (GPR) has reached an agreement to introduce the Senhance surgical system in the hospital.
Since 2004, the GPR Hospital is a division of the non-profit GPR Health and Care Center GmbH in Rüsselsheim and is responsible for care in the western region of the Rhine Valley/main city. The hospital has 503 inpatient beds, 17 clinics and institutes, and 12 care centers. GPR Hospitals provide care to nearly 25,000 inpatients and 130,000 outpatients annually.

About Senhance surgical robot
The Senhance surgical robot system adopts a multi-port design, allowing up to four arms to control robotic instruments and a camera. It is a controlled laparoscopic instrument that can be used for tissue visualization and endoscopic operations, including grasping, cutting, dissection, ligation, electrocautery, suturing, mobilization and retraction. The Senhance system's optical sensors allow surgeons to move the camera, select commands through eye movement, and provide tactile feedback based on the pressure and tension of the instrument, thereby increasing the surgeon's flexibility and agility in observing the surgical field.
Senhance surgical robot cuts or closes different tissues through ultrasonic equipment, minimizing the thermal impact on surrounding tissues, reducing bleeding and trauma to surrounding tissues. Comparing the minimally invasive surgical procedures of the da Vinci robot and the Senhance robot: The doctor can sit in front of the 3D imaging screen and control the three arms of the Senhance robot to perform surgery. The Da Vinci robot has not yet achieved a true 3D imaging field of view, and it retains four arms. In addition, Senhance also has a force feedback tactile function, which can feed back to the doctor according to the hardness of the tissue or organ to adjust the strength of the arm operation. This is also one of the "weak spots" of the Da Vinci robot.
In 2021, the company also launched an articulating instrument with a diameter of 5 mm and has received FDA 510(k) approval, which allows for better access to hard-to-reach anatomical areas by providing two additional degrees of freedom.
In September 2021, Asensus Surgical announced that it had obtained FDA 510(k) clearance for expanding the machine vision capabilities of ISU.Used with the Senhance system, the ISU enables machine vision capabilities on the Senhance system, expanding the ISU's machine vision capabilities as it evolves from robot-assisted surgery to performance-guided surgery.
ISU's initial function is to provide doctors with machine vision-driven camera control by responding to commands and identifying certain objects and locations in the surgical field, and allowing doctors to change the field of view through instrument movement. The latest ISU expands these existing functions, including: real-time 3D measurement during surgery, digital marking, image enhancement, and enhanced camera control based on real-time data of intraoperative anatomy.
