According to telecompaper on October 14, Nokia announced a technical partnership with ESnet and launched ESnet6, a high-performance network dedicated to collaborative scientific research by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

ESnet deploys Nokia's market-leading 7750 Service Router (SR) platform, providing up to 100Gbps and 400Gbps transmission services through IP/MPLS networks that support over 46 Tbps capacity. ESnet6 can handle the task of exchanging large amounts of research data flexibly, quickly and reliably between facilities and instruments that produce data and supercomputers and researchers using the data, allowing large data sets generated when supercomputers run tasks to be transmitted to researchers nationwide and globally at high speed. Such traffic-intensive and dynamically running transmission tasks usually require the system to support PB-scale traffic transmission, such as high-energy physics experiments on the Large Hadron Collider of CERN.
