When talking about the status quo of 5G, Meng Pu said that although 5G has only been commercialized for a year, my country’s 5G construction has already begun to take shape. For example, by the end of this year, 5G base stations will exceed 700,000, and 5G mobile phone shipments will exceed 100 million. The number of 5G terminal connections exceeds 160 million, but 5G is still in the process of evolution, and the 5G standard itself is constantly changing. For example, the new generation of 5G standard Rel-16 was frozen in July this year and many new functions were added. For example, the millimeter wave function is enhanced, the support of the intelligent vehicle networking C-V2X is added, and the stability is improved, and the response delay is reduced.
5G's infrastructure and consumer market also have huge room for growth. Compared with 4G, the number of 5G base stations is still ten times higher than that of 4G. Compared with the 1.29 billion 4G users, the number of 5G consumers also has nearly 90% room for growth. In terms of overseas markets, it is estimated that global shipments of 5G mobile phones will reach 300 million units in 2021, and Qualcomm and partners need to continue to strive for it. Qualcomm has expanded its 5G mobile phone product line this year. In addition to the flagship Snapdragon 8 series, it has also expanded 7 series, 6 series, and 4 series 5G new platforms, which can help China’s industrial partners’ 5G products to cover more Consumer groups.
Meng Pu also emphasized that 5G is an industry that requires global cooperation. Over the past two decades, Qualcomm and its Chinese partners have been cooperating very closely. Qualcomm has also been using advanced mobile technology and global resources to help Chinese partners expand overseas markets. He gave an example: 7 of the top 10 mobile phone manufacturers in the world are Chinese brands, and these 7 are Qualcomm's long-term partners.
