"We are trying to connect the use of drones with IoT solutions, first to implement in Gurgaon, Karnal and Faridabad, where the smart city framework is in place," Anand Mohan Sharan, Chief Secretary for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Industry and Commerce of Haryana, told the Economic Times. "First of all, we plan to use drones to locate and repair potholes after the monsoon season, as well as spraying crop management such as pesticides and fertilizers. There will be multiple solutions around the IoT in our smart cities."

IoT devices embed sensors, software and other technologies to connect and exchange data with other devices and systems over the Internet.

"This will be even more prominent with the advent of the 5G era and the advancement towards Industry 4.0," Sharan said. "The state government has also introduced a data center policy and is currently developing solutions for how to expand interests to investors and individuals."

The state has established a drone company and is developing policies to manage drones. With the support of Haryana UAV Imaging and Information Service Co., Ltd., the state is also setting up a training institution to train UAV pilots.
