In 2012, the Three Gorges Water Conservancy Hub Cascade Dispatch Communication Center (hereinafter referred to as Three Gorges Ladder Dispatch) built the largest water situation telemetry system in the country at that time, which can collect information from more than 400 telemetry sites from Pingshan, Sichuan to Yichang, Hubei in 5 minutes, and forecast the water and rain situation in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River within 48 hours.
In 2016, the water rain telemetry station increased to more than 600. In June of that year, the Three Gorges Ladder Adjustment predicted a week in advance that 35,000 cubic meters of floods per second passed through the Three Gorges Project on the 27th. On the 26th, the inlet flow of Three Gorges Reservoir reached this peak, and the forecast was basically accurate.
In August 2020, with the help of Sanxia water situation telemetry system and other hydrological meteorological forecast system, the No. 5 flood peak was accurately predicted two days in advance to 75,000 cubic meters per second.
According to Bao Zhengfeng, deputy director of the Three Gorges Ladder Mechanism, the current system can view the trend within 10 days, the magnitude within 5 days, and the process within 2 days.

In 2020, the largest flood peak of the Three Gorges Reservoir was 75,000 cubic meters per second, which is the largest flood peak since the construction of the Three Gorges Reservoir, far exceeding the 63,300 cubic meters per second in 1998.
According to the analysis of the Yangtze River Water Conservancy Committee, if there is no joint dispatch of the reservoir group with the Three Gorges Reservoir as the core, in the case of floods of the same magnitude, the water level of the flood peak in Shashi District, Jingzhou City will exceed the guaranteed water level by 1.3 meters, and the water level of the flood peak in Lianhuatang will exceed the guaranteed water level by 0.8 meters, which means that Jingjiang Flood Diversion Zone must be enabled. 2022 Summer Three Gorges Project Replenishment
In 2022, the Yangtze River Basin continued to drought. From August 1 to 15, the Yangtze River Commission coordinated the demand for drought-resistant water and high-temperature power supply, and dispatched the basin controlled reservoir group to orderly replenish about 5.3 billion cubic meters of water to the middle and lower reaches of the river, of which 1.09 billion cubic meters of water were added to the Three Gorges Reservoir, which to a certain extent alleviated the low water level of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
Since the Three Gorges Project began to store water in 2003, it has timely supplied and replenished water to the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River during the dry season every year. As of June 2022, it has adjusted and replenished water to the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and the total amount of water replenishment in the past 10 years has accounted for the majority. In the past four years, the Three Gorges Reservoir has replenished water for nearly 700 days in the downstream, with a total water replenishment of about 90 billion cubic meters, increasing the average downstream flow during the dry period by about 1,700 cubic meters per second, effectively improving the navigation conditions in the middle and lower reaches and effectively ensuring the production, living and ecological water needs along the river.
At the same time, the cascade reservoir will also conduct ecological scheduling experiments. Ecological scheduling refers to the process of continuous increase in water release during the four big fish spawning period, causing the river water to continue to rise, creating suitable hydrological and hydraulic conditions, promoting the spawning and reproduction of drifted egg-producing fish such as the "four big fish" and other drifting egg-producing fish, and maximizing the ecological function of the Yangtze River reservoir group.
