According to Capacitymedia on October 17, Vodafone announced this morning that it would transfer 100 applications on the SAP process from its on-premises infrastructure to Google Cloud. Google Cloud and Vodafone said it is one of the largest and most complex SAP migration plans in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Google's Mona Abdalla (pictured) and Vodafone's Christian Hegmanns said in a blog post: "Vodafone uses SAP for financial, procurement and human resources services, which is the backbone of its internal and external operations."

They added: "High availability and reliability are fundamental requirements for ensuring smooth operation and minimum downtime. In addition, hosting SAP on Google Cloud is the foundation for digital innovation and maintaining network security."

Vodafone called the project "Evo2cloud" and said it will transform the broad SAP ecosystem that has been operating locally for the past 15 years.

The telecom company said it viewed the project as the first step in a three-phase transformation, not only migrating SAP to Google Cloud, but also integrating SAP with Vodafone data located on Google BigQuery and using cloud-based data analytics tools to optimize data usage, processes, and how Vodafone’s business operations are operated.
