According to telecompaper website on October 5, Orange Belgium and Netherlands operators KPN have received EU funding to study how 5G network can help support navigation and logistics services for shipping routes. The focus of the 5G project along this transnational route is the Westerschelde waterway between the Netherlands and Belgium, one of the busiest routes in the world, with more than 15 ships passing each year.

Two companies plan to establish a "cross-border digital corridor" to develop new applications for ports, logistics centers, logistics support services and aviation businesses based on the high speed and low latency of the 5G network. Other participants in the project include the Port of Bruges, the Port of North Sea, as well as the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Maritime Agency of the two countries. The subsidy is provided by the EU's "Connecting Europe" fund and is expected to complete the initial construction of the project in mid-23 years.
