Microsoft released a new Windows 11 preview build to users in the development channel, and according to the official update log, one of the basic improvements is for widgets. The original version of Windows 11 comes with a widget, which is a new feature that has evolved a lot later, and the latest Windows 11 preview build further evolved it.
More specifically, Microsoft is implementing additional enhancements to introduce settings items specifically for easier use of widgets and access settings in a more convenient way.
"In this update, we've separated the widget picker and widget settings to make it easier to find and interact with each view. Now the widget selector is turned on by the "+" button and the widget settings are turned on by the "My" button." Microsoft explained that they reused the space taken up by the selector in the Widget settings to cover the taskbar settings based on high internal feedback calls, allowing users to control how the Widget items work on the taskbar.
The company also offers new toggle keys to control the behavior of the Widgets taskbar, so when you expand this screen you will find three different settings.
controls whether the Widgets board will open when the mouse pointer hovers over the taskbar icon.
controls whether Widgets will display notification badges on the taskbar.
controls whether the real-time Widget content on the taskbar displays more than the weather.
In this version, the wording of the switch in the Widget settings is slightly different from the wording in the screenshot above. In future updates, the text toggled in the Widget settings will be updated to reflect the content in the (above) screenshot, Microsoft said.
New Widgets improvements are being rolled out to Insider in phases, and Microsoft says it wants to gather more feedback before announcing widespread use in plans.
