The move is a result of enhancements to NBN Co’s wholesale enterprise Ethernet offering and will be available in 304 commercial fiber zones, with a footprint covering a claimed 900,000 businesses.

The speed tiers available to retailers are now up from 2Gbps to 10Gbps.

NBN Co said in its announcement that fiber-to-the-home commercial products are "compatible with Ethernet standards" across all retailers. Target customers cited by

NBN Co include "medical professionals supporting highly data-intensive imaging; schools requiring dedicated wholesale bandwidth plans over the NBN; and franchises running business-critical and cloud applications with high upload and download requirements of small and medium-sized enterprises”.

About two-thirds of locations within the NBN Business Fiber Zone are eligible for high-speed service within 50 working days. New business network terminal equipment supports higher access speeds.

NBN Co added that for 36-month contracts located within the business fiber zone service area, retailers' connection costs will be fully subsidized.

The service will also be available on demand to metros and data centers in service areas.
