According to a report by FIERCE Wireless on June 25, , analysts at Signal Research Group (SRG) did not make any predictions about the future success of the Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN), but they did so in Las Vegas Tests of the antenna network showed somewhat inconsistent performance.

The illustration on the cover of the June 22 report sums it up, which depicts two versions of Dish Chairman Charlie Ergen: one where he looks cool, calm and collected, using long-term infrastructure Vendors Nokia and Ericsson equipment, the other one he looks nervous about is using unverified equipment from open RAN vendors.
The study is titled "Hold 'Em or Fold 'Em."
In what may be Dish's biggest gamble yet, the company is building what she calls "the world's most advanced cloud-native 5G open RAN network," meaning it's using open RAN equipment from a number of vendors, and Rather than leaving network construction to infrastructure veterans such as Ericsson and Nokia.
Existing US wireless carriers using equipment from Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung are trying to open RAN, but none are as committed to open RAN as Dish. The testing of
SRG was completed over two days at the end of May.
They used two Motorola Edge+ smartphones on the Dish network and two Samsung Galaxy S20 smartphones on the T-Mobile network. The
test was conducted in 5G standalone (SA) mode to make it easier to compare results between the two networks as well as non-standalone (NSA) mode when making voice calls.
This means that voice calls on the T-Mobile network are VoLTE and voice calls on the Dish network are VoNR.
