During the Spring and Autumn Period, Duke Xian of Jin listened to the slander and killed Prince Shen Sheng , and sent people to capture Shen Sheng's younger brother Chong'er . After Chong'er received the news, he quickly escaped from Jin Kingdom and has been wandering outside.

After all the hardships, Chong'er came to Chu Kingdom . King Cheng of Chu thought that Chong'er would do great things in the future, so he greeted him with courtesy and treated him like a distinguished guest.

One day, the King of Chu and Chong'er were drinking and talking. Suddenly the King of Chu asked Chong'er: If one day you return to the Kingdom of Jin and become the king, how will you repay me? Chong'er thought for a while and said: Beautiful women, precious silks, great king. You have a lot of rare bird feathers, ivory and animal skins, which are rich in Chu land. How can Jin have any rare items to offer to the king? The king of Chu said: "Young Master is too modest." Although that is what I said, you should also show me something, right? Chong'er smiled and replied: "It's because of you." If I can really return to my country to be in power, I would like to be friendly with your country. If one day there is a war between Jin and Chu, I will definitely order the army to retreat three sheds (one shed is equal to thirty miles). If you are still unwilling to forgive me, I will fight you again.

Four years later, Chong'er really returned to Jin and became the king, becoming the famous Duke Wen of Jin in history. The Jin State became increasingly powerful under his governance.

In 633 BC, the armies of Chu and Jin met in battle. In order to fulfill his promise, Duke Wen of Jin ordered the army to retreat ninety miles and stationed in Chengpu. When the Chu army saw the Jin army retreating, they thought the enemy was afraid and immediately pursued them. The Jin army took advantage of the Chu army's weakness of being proud and underestimating the enemy, concentrated its forces, defeated the Chu army, and won the Battle of Chengpu .

The inspiration gained from this allusion is a bit scattered. I would like some guidance on whether it is correct or not.

1. This allusion literally means to learn to be patient and give in. This is the story of 's famous "Six Feet Alley". We don't have to fight with others because of some small interests. We should give in when it is time to give in. This is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of magnanimity.

"The Analects of Confucius" says: "Confucius said:...'If there is a way in the world, you will see; if there is no way, you will hide...'"

This view of Confucius still applies to today's life.

For example, in the workplace, if the leader is a stupid person, don't be confrontational, then shut up, keep your head down and do your job, and don't let yourself be harmed; if the leader is a wise person, then do your best Help him, cooperate with him well, and make the company and team stronger.

Giving in is actually a kind of protection for yourself. A truly smart person knows how to put away his edge in the dark, hide his strength and bide his time, accumulate strength, wait for time, and then burst into action and become a blockbuster.

But sometimes we can't retreat. Such as learning and growing. It should be to rush forward and move forward. Because this is something that will be of great help to us in the future, we must never give up.

Therefore, sometimes we can give in and not argue with others, which is a kind of tolerance and magnanimity; knowing how to tolerate is a kind of self-cultivation. Because retreat means advance.

But on the way of learning and growing, we should maintain permanent passion and never give up, let alone shrink back.

2. Keep your promises.

Although this is far from this word, I can see this character of Chong'er.

Let's not talk about the outcome. At least what he promised did come true, and his army retreated ninety miles.

This is also a golden rule when we get along with others. Remember every word we say to others and what we promise to others, we cannot break the promise. You have to be kind and mean what you say, as the late Mr. Kazuo Inamori, the "father of business" in Japan, said. In fact, many principles are very simple. They were taught to us by our parents and teachers when we were young, and we can really continue to do them. There are very few people. We must put it into practice and stick to the good principles. Confucius once said: "Believe deeply and love to learn, and stick to the good way."

3. Don't be controlled by greed.

The ending of this allusion is that Chu was defeated by Jin.In fact, from the beginning, I felt that King Chu Cheng was a very ambitious person. He did help Chong'er, but he took the initiative to ask for reward from Chong'er.

Do we have such friends around us? He did you a favor. In fact, you really wanted to thank him, but you felt that the time had not come yet. But before you had time to express your gratitude to him, he spoke to you: "You thought I helped you last time, but now... Is it time to repay me?" and then make all kinds of unreasonable demands to you. This is a kind of moral kidnapping . Facing such people, you are in a dilemma. If you agree, the condition is too much. Either it will be difficult to complete, or you will feel uncomfortable. But if you don't agree, the other party will say that they are really ungrateful. They helped you so much in the past, but now they ignore it.

I think this is what King Chu Cheng meant. In fact, at first he wanted Chong'er to give him part of the land of Jin after he became the king of Jin. However, Chong'er was very smart and just promised Chi that he would stay away if the two countries fought. When the reality was faced, King Chu Cheng's true form appeared, and he planned to defeat Jin and occupy Jin's land. This is greed and greed, but what is the final outcome?

Therefore, we should not be carried away by desire. When it expands infinitely, it will explode.

And we should also improve our insight and discernment. When making friends, think carefully, is the other person really treating you well? You must understand that true friends will help you silently, let alone ask for anything from you. Chong'er was a very wise man. He neither broke trust nor relied on his keen sense to understand the ambition of King Chu Cheng, and then made full preparations to defeat the Chu army.

Summary: This allusion has three points:

1. Put away your own edge, give in when it’s time to give in, and don’t fight with others, so as to cultivate your tolerant character.

2. Keep your promises and remember the principle of "a promise is worth gold". A person's biggest bankruptcy is not his property but his reputation.

3. You must learn to distinguish, some people cannot be deeply friends. In the face of interests, we must control our desires, not want to have what we want unscrupulously, and cherish the present.
