18. The "Three Leopards" at the Three-way Intersection (continued)

(2) Our army marched into the Temple of Wealth, but the enemy chief missed the point, "Three Leopards" "He took refuge with Song Ruike and continued to do evil. In 1947, our underground worker Xia Hanfu and others carried out enemy reconnaissance activities in the Dangyang and Yuan'an areas. In order to confuse the enemy, Xia disguised himself as a Kuomintang deserter and broke into the Kuomintang Gangong Township Office. He worked as a long-term laborer and cook for the pseudo-township chiefs Feng Quanzhi, Zhang Xiaoxian, and Mao Guojun. At this time, the "Three Leopards" were also serving in the Puppet Township Office. Therefore, our underground worker Xia Hanfu and others had the opportunity to learn a large amount of evidence about the crimes of the "Three Leopards". On the night of February 9, 1947, Zhang Caiqian, the commander of our Jiangnan Guerrilla Column, attacked the Gangong Township Office and marched towards the Caishen Temple. Lei Jun was appointed deputy captain of the Township Self-Defense Force and led more than ten people to resist with guns. As soon as the gun fired, the enemies ran around like frightened birds. Commander Zhang easily seized 6 spears, and the Kuomintang pseudo-township chief Zhang Xiaoxian escaped with his life. After that, they carried out counter-revolutionary activities even more crazily. They extended their evil hands to Nanzhang, Yuan'an, Yichang and other places. Sometimes they wear civilian clothes and steal our party's intelligence everywhere; sometimes they lead armed forces to kill our army's reconnaissance personnel. One day in April 1948, four soldiers from the third company of the first battalion of our 13th regiment were scouting the enemy's situation at the south peak of Zaolin. Jia Wen, a villager from the fourth group of workers and rural areas who was staying in the village, had his home. Lei Manzi led three armed men to attack late at night in an attempt to capture four of our soldiers alive but failed. In the second half of that year, he forced local farmer Li Minghua to work as an intelligence agent for the Puppet 60th Division. Li was unwilling to do it, so he immediately framed Li Tonggong and took him to the township office and beat him severely. Li had no choice but to ask someone to intercede and gave him 300,000 yuan in counterfeit currency. In early 1949, Lei Li ordered people to stab to death our army soldier Yang Xianzhang with a pointed pole in what is now Wusi Village. Later, they forced farmers Xiong Chengchun, Ai Tianjin, Zhang Qingfu and others from the village to guard sentries in Xiwan, near Ganxi Town, to prevent the activities of my underground workers. Xiong and the other three were unwilling to go, so Lei Li falsely accused them of complicity and fined them to pay many pieces of homespun cloth, 90 yuan in cash, 3 cartons of cigarettes, 10 shi and 5 measures of rice, and the three of them went bankrupt. On February 4, 1949, our army conquered Jingmen County, and liberated Dangyang County for the second time, and established a new political power in Gangong Township, Ganxi District. The "Three Leopards" openly confronted the squadron again, trying to overthrow my new regime that was not yet stable. On the morning of March 10, the "Three Leopards" ordered their subordinate Pei Yinglong and others to sneak attack the squadron of our district. Seeing that the situation was over, Pei and the other three took a rifle, dozens of rounds of bullets, three hand grenades, and a telephone and threw themselves into the city at Jinyinling in Baibaozhai to attack Nie Chengjun, the squadron of our district. The "Three Leopards" were very angry when they learned about it. They issued a wanted order and offered a reward of 500 yuan for the capture of our district squadron leader Nie Chengjun. One day in May 1949, they took advantage of Nie's meeting in Ganxi Town and organized an armed outflank attack. Nie broke through the siege and led the bandits to pursue him for ten miles. At Qikongyan, they were counterattacked by reinforcements from our district squadron and captured him alive. Soldier Feng Deyao and captured all the bullets. After that, the "Three Leopards" colluded with the 90th Division of the Kuomintang in an attempt to completely annihilate the squadron in our area. Late at night on June 3, after my underground worker Xia Hanfu learned the news, he raided the "Three Leopards" lair and seized 6 rifles, more than a thousand rounds of bullets, a pistol , and a horse cannon. Township chief Wei Jimin and township chief Zhang Xiao fled first. The "Three Leopards" hid in the mountains, and as a last resort, they made a false surrender to the Ganxi District Government.
