Wolves is very sad to confirm that former Chinese coach Sammy Chung passed away on August 28 at the age of 90.
From June 1976 to November 1978, Sammy Chung served as the head coach of the Wolves and led the team in a total of 107 games.
Sammy Chung’s mother is British and her father is Chinese. As a player, he served as a forward and midfielder, mainly in the third and fourth tiers. After
retired, he followed his mentor Bill McGarry to the Wolves as an assistant coach, helping the team win the 1974 League Cup championship and reach the 1972 Europa League final.
In 1976, Wolves were relegated, Bill McGarry was dismissed, and Sammy Chung took over as head coach. In the 1976/77 season, Sammy Chung led Wolves to the secondary league championship and immediately returned to the top league. In his 107 games coaching the Wolves, he led the team to a total of 41 wins.
Sammy Chung passed away peacefully in his sleep last Sunday after a long illness. The thoughts of everyone at Wolves are with Sammy Chung’s family and friends.
