Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician Tang Hongxiao passed away!
Comrade Tang Hongxiao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, an internationally renowned environmental engineer, and a researcher at the Center for Ecological Environment Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, died in Beijing on December 16, 2022 at the age of 91 due to ineffective treatment.
Tang Hongxiao was born on October 4, 1931 in Xushui, Hebei Province. He joined the Communist Party of China in January 1950, graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology in September 1958, taught at Harbin Institute of Architectural Engineering in 1959, and worked at the Center for Ecological Environment Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1977. He has served as a scientific and technological consultant of the State Administration of Environmental Protection, a member of the National Environmental Advisory Committee of , director of the academic committee of the Center for Ecological Environment Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and director of the Academic Committee of the National Key Joint Laboratory of Environmental Simulation and Pollution Control.
Tang Hongxiao is a pioneer in the discipline of environmental water quality in my country. He has been engaged in scientific research and teaching in the fields of environmental water quality, environmental engineering and water wastewater treatment technology for a long time. He has successively engaged in the research on the forms, evaluation and management of heavy metals such as Xi Canal mercury pollution, cadmium pollution in Xiangjiang, and copper pollution in Poyang Lake. He has taken the lead in carrying out research on the water quality process and surface complex calculation model of environmental microinterfaces. He has made a series of breakthroughs in the research and development of inorganic polymer flocculation theory and flocculant, and presided over the creation of my country's first modern polyaluminum chloride production plant and stabilizing polyaluminum chloride process. He has won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award, the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the He Liang He Li Award, the first prize of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and so on.
When reviewing his scientific career, Tang Hongxiao once said: "Under any conditions, I am always unwilling to let go, and I work hard to move forward without sinking into the commonplace."

Comrade Lin Shixiong, a famous petroleum educator, heavy oil processing expert, first director of the National Key Laboratory of Heavy Oil Processing at China University of Petroleum and former professor of the Department of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), unfortunately died in Beijing on December 16, 2022 at the age of 90 due to ineffective treatment of the disease.
Professor Lin Shixiong was born in Shanghai in 1932 and joined the Communist Party of China in 1953. He graduated from the Department of Petroleum Engineering of Tsinghua University in 1953 and from the graduate class of the Department of Refining, Beijing Petroleum College in 1958. Since 1953, he has taught at Beijing Petroleum College, East China Petroleum College , and University of Petroleum (Beijing). He has successively served as director of the Oil Refining Teaching and Research Department of the Refining Department of the East China Petroleum College, deputy director of the Refining Department and director of the Refining Department of the Petroleum University (East China). He was promoted to professor in June 1987. Since 1991, he has enjoyed special government allowance from the State Council. He has won the titles of , an expert with outstanding contributions to young and middle-aged people in the Ministry of Personnel, an advanced scientific and technological worker in higher education institutions across the country, and Capital Labor Medal , and retired in July 1998.
Professor Lin Shixiong is one of the founders of the discipline of heavy oil processing. He cultivated morality and devoted himself to academic work throughout his life. He has had profound attainments in education and scientific research, and has made great contributions to the country's technological progress in quality oil, school discipline development and talent training. He has been on the three-foot podium for decades and actively promoted education and teaching reform and textbook compilation. The " Petroleum Refining Project " he was editor-in-chief won the "National Excellent Textbook Award for Colleges and Universities", which played an important role in establishing a complete teaching system for the petroleum refining major, greatly promoted the improvement of the teaching level of the petroleum processing major, and guided and affected the learning and growth of generations of petroleum and chemical technical talents after the reform and opening up. He has the ambition to serve the country through scientific research, devotes himself to academic research, overcomes difficulties, and participates in a number of scientific research projects, promoting innovation in new theories, new products, new technologies and new methods of refining and chemical. He has won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and led the progress of my country's heavy-quality oil processing technology. He actively participated in the construction of the discipline of heavy oil processing and made important contributions to promoting the heavy oil processing laboratory to become the national key laboratory . He promoted the construction of petrochemical disciplines and talent training to form characteristics and advantages, making China University of Petroleum ranked among the forefront of the country in this field.
Professor Lin Shixiong worked hard on the education front for forty-five years. He is rigorous in academic research and diligent in work; he is indifferent to fame and fortune, and is brave in dedication; he is strict with himself and lenient with others; he loves comrades and cares for students; he has cultivated a large number of outstanding talents and made outstanding contributions to the construction and development of China University of Petroleum, and is a model for teachers and a role model for scholars. His death is a major loss to China University of Petroleum and a major loss to my country's petrochemical industry!
