He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995. He has served as chief engineer of the Wuhan Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Research Institute, deputy director of the Wuhan Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Research Institute, senior technical consultant of the Wuhan Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Research Institute, vice chairman of the Hubei Association of Science and Technology, and head of the overall group of the fiber optic communication expert group of the National Science and Technology Commission.

Zhao Zisen is the main founder and recognized pioneer of my country's optical fiber communication technology. So he resolutely dropped out of school and took the admission examination of Fudan University . At that time, he filled in the Department of Physics, but when the admission results were announced, he was transferred to the Department of Biology. Zhao Zisen had to retake the exam again and took the Department of Electrical Engineering, Datong University. When he was in his junior year, the department was adjusted nationwide. The Department of Electrical Engineering, where Zhao Zisen was located, was incorporated into the Department of Electrical Engineering, so he became a student of Jiaotong University and transferred to Jiaotong University to study.
