In the 1860s, a French coastal defense ship encountered a king squid about six meters long. There was a desperate fight between the two, and the king squid finally escaped because of a cannonball attack.
In early January 2013, Japan’s NHK TV and the American Discovery Channel captured the scene of the king squid swimming in the deep sea for the first time.
The biggest natural enemy of the king cuttlefish is sperm whale . Sperm whales often "breath-dive" in the deep sea for 1.5 hours for hunting king cuttlefish.
Life and death duel between natural enemies
Someone once saw the fierce scenes of sperm whales fighting with giant squids in the tropical sea. They fight from the deep sea to the shallow sea. There are only two results of the battle. Either the sperm whale eats the king squid, or the king squid covers the spray hole of the sperm whale with its wrist tentacles and suffocates it to death. However, in most cases it was the sperm whale that won the final victory.
There is a similar record in December 1946 when a 10,000-ton tanker encountered a king horse thief about 20 meters long. It rushed straight to the huge ship, and slammed the cabin with its wrist until it was cut off by the propeller at the stern.
We still know very little about the king squid, we don't even know how big a mature king squid is, and the scientific community has no consensus on this. According to the different entry points of the research, the size of the judgment ranges from 10 to 45 meters, which can be described as diverse.
