The winners of the 2021 " Scientific Exploration Award " were announced today (September 13), and 50 young scientists won the award. This year, two young scientists from Fudan University won awards: and Shen Weixiao in the field of mathematics and physics, and Xu Yanhui in the field of life sciences.
The "Science Exploration Award" is a public welfare award funded and supported by the Tencent Foundation and led by scientists. It is currently one of the highest funding programs for young scientific and technological talents in China. In the past two years, a total of 5 teachers from Fudan have won awards. In 2020, Fudan's award-winning young scientists include Zhang Yuanbo in the field of mathematics and physics, Liu Zhipan in the field of new chemical materials, and Lu Boxun in the field of life sciences.
Shen Weixiao is the chief professor and deputy director of the Shanghai Mathematical Center of Fudan University, the leader of the dynamic system research team of the Mathematical Center, and a professor of the School of Mathematical Sciences. He has been engaged in the research of dynamic system theory in basic mathematics for a long time and is one of the well-known scholars in this field in the world.
The research direction of dynamical systems is a branch of basic mathematics. It was initiated by the French mathematician Poincare at the beginning of the last century. It is a mathematical theory for studying the evolution of nature.
Shen Weixiao is a well-known international expert in this field. He has published many international first-class papers, including 9 papers in the "Four Major Journals of Mathematics", which solved important problems in a series of fields. The real Fatou conjecture in the one-dimensional real dynamical system proved by him and his collaborators was listed as "one of the most important mathematical problems in the 21st century" by Fields Prize winner Smel. In 2009, he was awarded the Chern Prize of Mathematics by the Chinese Mathematical Society as the youngest winner in 2009, and he gave an invited report at the 2014 international mathematician conference .

Xu Yanhui, Fudan University Affiliated Tumor Hospital , dual-appointed professor and doctoral supervisor of the Institute of Biomedicine. He has been engaged in structural biology research for a long time, using biochemical and structural biology methods to study the structure and function of key proteins such as gene expression regulation.
The research of Xu Yanhui’s team has refreshed the previous understanding of the academic community and expanded people’s understanding of gene transcription. Since the beginning of last year, Xu Yanhui has led the team to publish 4 long articles in Science magazine, revealing The basic mechanism of the initiation of transcription. The latest research results are used as the cover article, which overturns the traditional view of promoter recognition in classic textbooks, and also provides a theoretical reference for the study of abnormal gene expression in the regulation and intervention of diseases.
