Quantum Computer has another new player landing, this time it is Fujitsu. The Japanese technology giant recently announced that it will cooperate with the Institute of Physics and Chemistry ( RIKEN ) to build a set of 1000 qubits in the next few years on the basis of the latter’s existing advanced superconducting quantum computing technology research. In a joint statement issued by Fujitsu and RIKEN, Fujitsu stated that this research will be conducted in the new RIKEN RQC-Fujitsu Cooperation Center. The superconducting quantum computing collaborative research between Fujitsu and the Institute of Physics and Chemistry was announced as early as October 2020. This new collaborative center is the latest extension of this collaborative research.

According to the content of the statement, Fujitsu and the Institute of Physics and Chemistry will explore the possibility of accelerating the progress of research and development, and hope that fault-tolerant superconducting quantum computers can be put into practical use. The two will cooperate to improve the manufacturing of qubits, reduce the experience and noise of various peripherals, and integrate integrated chips at low temperatures. These research results will be used to build a prototype superconducting quantum computer, and this computer will later be used for the development of practical applications.

"The results of these collaborative research in the cooperation center not only have the potential to provide practical value for drug discovery and materials science, but also can contribute to scientific and technological discoveries in Japan and the world."

Fujitsu did not specify when this quantum computer will be available, but the statement shows that the cooperation between the two will end on March 31, 2025, which is four years later.

In fact, Fujitsu and the Institute of Physics and Chemistry have been cooperating for quite some time, and now TOP500 , the number one supercomputer Fugaku, is built by Fujitsu and installed in the Institute of Physics and Chemistry.
