Fujian Daily·New Fujian Client October 20th (Reporter Chen Shengzhong Correspondent Chen Jianfei Huang Xiaojun Text/Photo) October 20th is World Osteoporosis Day. This year China's publicity theme is "Consolidate your life and win the fight against fractures." On the morning of the same day, Putian College Affiliated Hospital held the World Osteoporosis Day free clinic event in the outpatient hall of the new district, providing free diagnosis and treatment services and health guidance to the public.

event site, nearly 20 medical staff from the orthopedics, rheumatology, endocrinology, nephrology, gastroenterology, pain, nutrition, hyperbaric oxygen, respiratory and critical care medicine and other departments of Putian University Affiliated Hospital popularized the knowledge of osteoporosis through consultation and distribution of popular science brochures, and guided patients to eat a balanced diet, reasonably supplement calcium agent , exercise appropriately, develop good living habits, and guide patients to check regularly and seek medical treatment in a timely manner if relevant symptoms occur.

Xiao Jiecheng, deputy chairman of the Osteoporosis and Bone Mineral Salt Disease Branch of Putian Medical Association and deputy chief physician of orthopedic department of Putian University Affiliated Hospital, introduced that osteoporosis is a systemic bone disease characterized by low bone mass and bone microstructure damage, resulting in increased bone fragility and prone to fractures. Osteoporosis is divided into two major categories: primary and secondary, among which primary osteoporosis is divided into three categories: postmenopausal osteoporosis (type I), senile osteoporosis (type II), and idiopathic osteoporosis (including adolescent type). Postmenopausal osteoporosis generally occurs within 5 to 10 years after menopause in women; senile osteoporosis generally refers to osteoporosis that occurs after the age of 70 in the elderly; idiopathic osteoporosis mainly occurs in adolescents, and the cause is not yet clear.

As the degree of aging in my country continues to deepen, the number of patients with osteoporosis and fragile fractures has shown a significant upward trend, and the number of people with "crunchy bones" is increasing. Osteoporosis does not have obvious symptoms in the early stages and is easily overlooked. The fractures caused by osteoporosis not only reduce the quality of life, but also the mortality rate of hip fracture is as high as 27.1% in one year. About 50% of survivors are disabled and cannot take care of themselves. Therefore, osteoporosis is also called "invisible killer" by medical experts.

"Osteoporosis patients are ultra-high-risk people who have fragile fractures. They face the threat of multiple fragile fractures such as the hip, vertebrae, and distal radius, which brings serious burdens to individuals, families, and society." Xiao Jiecheng reminds that we should improve our awareness of prevention of osteoporosis, pay attention to bone health, conduct regular bone density tests, and understand our own bone status. At the same time, consulting a professional doctor and standardizing medication can minimize the risk of fractures, relieve symptoms such as bone pain and , and improve quality of life.
