Recently, the professional fundus disease team of Lei Xunwen from the Department of Ophthalmology of Lanzhou University First Hospital completed the first case of laser treatment for retinopathy of premature infants in Gansu Province and the first case of premature infant glass in the First Hospital of Lanzhou University Body cavity injection. Currently, laser treatment for ROP has been proposed internationally, which can effectively control the progression of the disease and reduce the blinding rate.

It is reported that there are three major difficulties in this operation. First, the operation is difficult and requires an experienced fundus doctor to complete it. Secondly, premature infants have poor general condition and high anesthesia risks. Special equipment and a professional pediatric anesthesia team are required to perform anesthesia. Third, perioperative requires professional care by a pediatric medical team. Due to the above restrictions, this operation has not been carried out in Gansu Province before.

In order to further improve the hospital's diagnosis and treatment of children with ROP, the ophthalmology department held multidisciplinary discussions with the pediatrics department and anesthesiology department in the early stage to formulate a detailed treatment plan.

In this operation, each department relied on its strong sub-professional advantages to send advantageous teams from each department to complete the operation together. The implementation of this surgery marks that the screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of children's fundus diseases in Lanzhou University First Hospital have formed a standardized diagnosis and treatment process. In the next step, the ophthalmology department will continue to rely on the hospital's effective mechanism of multidisciplinary collaboration to gradually improve the diagnosis and treatment of children's fundus diseases, benefiting more children in the northwest region.
