On December 17, 2022, the founding meeting and the first academic conference of the Sichuan Medical Communication Society’s Tumor Rehabilitation and Psychological Committee, sponsored by the Sichuan Medical Communication Society and hosted by Suining Central Hospital, was held in Guanyin’s hometown •Suining. At the meeting, Professor Li Na, an expert director of the Sichuan Medical Communication Society and director of the Cancer Center of Suining Central Hospital, was elected as the first chairman of the special committee.

With the development of medical diagnosis and treatment technology, the recovery rate of cancer patients has been continuously increasing and the survival time has been extended. The goal of cancer treatment is not only on how to make patients survive, but also on more attention to the functional status and quality of life of patients. The development of tumor psychology and rehabilitation is still in the early stages of development in my country. In order to promote the development of disciplines, the Sichuan Medical Communication Society has established a special committee on tumor rehabilitation and rehabilitation.

Zhao Weiqiang, Director of Suining Municipal Health Commission, delivered a speech. He said that malignant tumors, as the primary cause of death among our residents, is a major obstacle to the development of our health cause. Malignant tumors have become chronic systemic diseases and require full-cycle management to improve the quality of life of patients and prolong the survival of patients. It has become an important goal of tumor treatment. Rehabilitation and psychological intervention of tumor patients are also particularly important in tumor treatment. Sichuan Medical Communication Society is a society of communication + medicine. The establishment of the Tumor Rehabilitation and Psychological Professional Committee in Suining has filled the gap in tumor rehabilitation and psychological professional groups in Suining area, and has a positive role in promoting the development of Suining City in tumor rehabilitation and psychological construction.

At the conference, according to the society's "Articles" and "Branch Management Measures", the conference voted to pass the "List of Members to Be Approved", "List of Standing Committee Members to Be Approved", "List of Vice Chairmans to Be Approved", and "List of Chairmans to Be Approved". A total of 1 chairman, 17 vice chairman, 51 standing committee members and 178 members were elected at the conference.

At the meeting, Professor Li Na, the newly elected chairman, reported on the preliminary preparations of the special committee and the future work plan. First, Chairman Li Na explained the background and reasons for the establishment of the special committee. She said that tumors are a major negative event and stress event. Research shows that 16% to 42% of tumor patients will have adaptive disorders. Adaptive disorders are the most common mental disorder in tumor patients, and are often accompanied by anxiety and depression symptoms; 25% to 45% of tumor patients suffer from depression in different courses of disease and treatment, and about 10% to 30% will have anxiety. Cancer survivors are affected by the disease itself and long-term treatment and often face a variety of problems in recovery and psychological aspects, such as fear of recurrence of cancer and difficulty returning to work. At the same time, related side effects caused by cancer treatment, such as limb numbness, organ incompleteness, fatigue, pain after treatment, etc., have a long-term negative impact on patients. Cancer survivors often suffer from tremendous pressure from their spiritual, economic, and social culture. Therefore, we gather outstanding personnel engaged in tumor, psychology and rehabilitation majors and established the Oncology Rehabilitation and Psychology Professional Committee to improve the construction of oncology disciplines in our province, standardize management, carry out academic research and exchanges, guide, organize, develop and strengthen the team of oncology rehabilitation and psychologists. And provide targeted and more professional guidance and assistance to cancer patients, and contribute to the cause of medical communication.

This meeting ended successfully!
