On the afternoon of November 20, 1980, the special court of the People's Court at No. 1 Zhengyi Road, Beijing was held. At 3 pm, the court president, Jiang Hua, , announced the trial. At 3:15, the defendant Jiang Qing was taken to the court. Under the escort of two female bailiffs, Jiang Qing stood in the dock.
According to the memoir "The Vicissitudes of the Past" by the then deputy director Wu Xiuquan, Jiang Qing washed and dressed up before appearing in court. Jiang Qing cared about her image more. Jiang Qing has always been arrogant and liked to put on airs, and did not respect the staff around her.
According to Wu Xiuquan's recollection, before the trial, they had visited several people from the "Gang of Four" in the prison. Jiang Qing cleaned up her bed, cleaned her hair and shined her hair, and was in a good mood. In addition, according to the female guard Li Hong, Jiang Qing's skin was fair and even better than that of young women.
This is mainly because Jiang Qing’s food in prison was pretty good. At that time, Jiang Qing was detained in a single room, with a room of more than 20 square meters, with an independent bathroom, and a table for writing. Jiang Qing could read books in prison, and some books were collected by Jiang Qing and allowed her to take them in to read.
Jiang Qing can read " People's Daily ", "Red Flag Magazine" and some works of Chairman Mao in prison. Jiang Qing reads the most "Selected Works of Chairman Mao", and even reads Chairman Mao's quotations. Sometimes, after being tired of reading, Jiang Qing will sing Peking Opera on her own, which is her old career.
also has good treatment in terms of eating. Three meals a day are on time, as well as fruits and milk. The normal schedule and good diet structure all provide Jiang Qing with good treatment. That's why when Jiang Qing appeared in court, she gave people the feeling that she was fair-skinned and good spirited.
However, according to Wu Xiuquan's recollection, Jiang Qing's attitude in court was not good, and she even deliberately interrupted and talked nonsense to disrupt the trial. However, in the face of facts and in the face of a large amount of evidence, Jiang Qing could not escape the legal sanctions. In January 1981, a verdict was made on Jiang Qing.
Jiang Qing was sentenced to death, but was suspended for two years. In 1983, Jiang Qing was reduced to life imprisonment according to law. Jiang Qing was detained in Qincheng Prison. After her crime was sentenced, her daughter Li Na went to the prison to visit her, and Wang Jingqing was also with him.
Li Na lived alone with her children after divorce. Later, she met Wang Jingqing under the introduction of Li Yinqiao . She and Wang Jingqing went to prison to visit Jiang Qing and told Jiang Qing that she was going to marry Wang Jingqing. In 1984, Li Na and Wang Jingqing got married and re-established their family.
After marriage, Li Na still insisted on visiting Jiang Qing every year. At that time, almost no one went to visit Jiang Qing. In addition to Li Na, there was also Jiang Qing's sister Li Yunlu, who also went to visit Jiang Qing. Jiang Qing's original name was Li Yunhe and Li Yunlu was half-sister.
Li Yunlu had been taken care of by Jiang Qing, but she never asked about Jiang Qing. At that time, Li Yunlu was already very old and was still sick, so she insisted on going to prison to visit Jiang Qing with illness. Later, Li Yunlu died of illness on May 25, 1988 at the age of 85. Jiang Qing cried very sadly when she learned that her sister had passed away.
In addition to relatives visiting Jiang Qing, there are two other people visiting Jiang Qing. One is Zhang Sizhi, the head of the court defense team, and the other is Criminal Law expert Zhu Huarong . The two of them hired a lawyer for Jiang Qing in court. They provide legal help to Jiang Qing and will also bring her some daily necessities.
1991 On May 14, 1991, Jiang Qing died at the age of 77. After Jiang Qing's death, his body was cremated and his ashes were handed over to his daughter Li Na for safekeeping. In 2002, Li Na built a cemetery for Jiang Qing in Futian Cemetery in the western suburbs of Beijing, and also erected a monument. The tombstone was engraved with "The Tomb of My Mother Li Yunhe".
