1986, Ruan Yuzhan heard that a farmer in Da Nang City had an old banyan tree planted for more than 20 years at his home. The old banyan tree was lush with leaves and winding roots, which was very ornamental. After hearing this, Ruan Yuzhan drove to Danang . As a result, after seeing this banyan tree for the first time, Ruan Yuzhan was completely conquered by it.
Because this banyan tree is made of several main trunks, and its roots circling up like giant pythons, making the entire banyan tree appear a three-dimensional feeling.
Ruan Yuzhan asked the tree owner to buy it, but the tree owner said it was very difficult because the tree was planted by his father before and had a history of more than 20 years. Ruan Yuzhan asked the tree owner to offer a price, but the tree owner in turn asked Ruan Yuzhan to bid. The two of them fought back and forth. After negotiation, the two reached an agreement. Ruan Yuzhan finally bought the big banyan tree for 35 million Vietnamese Dong (equivalent to about 10,000 yuan).
After Ruan Yuzhan bought this banyan tree, he will take good care of the banyan tree over the years. He prunes branches and leaves on time every day to ensure that the bad leaves eaten by insects will not affect other healthy leaves.
Ruan Yuzhan said that bonsai or professional bonsai enthusiasts must attach great importance to the roots, because the roots are the key to plant formation. The roots must be large so that the trees can remain healthy and more robust. Ruan Yuzhan cultivated this banyan tree for a full 35 years. After Ruan Yuzhan's careful care, the tree is now 3 meters high, has a width of 3.56 meters, and a root diameter of 280 cm. Ruan Yuzhan said that if you want bonsai to participate in some international competitions, the diameter of bonsai tree cannot be too large or too small. Its stems, roots, sections, branches and complete body shapes must look very neat.
2021, the Vietnam Ornamental Biology Exhibition was held in the Ci Lian North District, Hanoi. There are a total of 100 booths. In addition to providing some ancient tree bonsai enthusiasts with bonsai, the venue also launched a lot of rare wooden tables, chairs and furniture.
